Warner Bros has unveiled a teaser trailer for A Minecraft Movie, the long-awaited Minecraft film that has been in the works for a while. Currently set to open in theaters April 2025. From Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures and starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black, A Minecraft Movie, directed by Jared Hess, is the first-ever big screen, live-action adaptation of Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time. The story follows four misfits who are pulled through a mysterious portal into the Overworld - where they must team up with an expert crafter to figure out way to be creative and get back out of there. Also with Emma Myers, Oscar nominee Danielle Brooks, Sebastian Eugene Hansen, and Jennifer Coolidge. With production design by Grant Major, costumes by Amanda Neale, and cinematography by Enrique Chediak. Earlier in the year, when it was discovered that 2024 would be the year of not one but two brand new films made by the talented Luca Guadagnino, I made a prediction that Queer would be the real knock out next to the more forgettable Challengers. Now that I've seen both of the films it's time to admit - my prediction was wrong. It turns out its the other way around and Challengers is the winner. Luca Guadagnino's Queer is premiering at the 2024 Venice Film Festival in the Main Competition, the same festival where most of the Italian filmmaker's previous films Suspiria, Bones and All, I Am Love, A Bigger Splash, as well as his doc Salvatore: Shoemaker of Dreams premiered. He's back in Venice again with what has been described as his most personal work yet, an adaptation of William S. Burroughs' very queer novel of the same name - which was originally written in the 1950s but never published until later in 1985. WB has debuted a quick music featurette for Joker: Folie à Deux, premiering this week at the 2024 Venice Film Festival. We already posted the official trailer a few months ago, and with this big moment about to happen, they're ramping up the final marketing blitz. Don't forget that Joker 2 is actually a musical! They've hidden this fact from the trailers for the most part, but this making of featurette offers a quick glimpse at a few musical numbers. "If you don't have facts, you can't have truth." Neon has revealed a trailer for 2073, a compelling new doc about climate change and the destructive future we're headed towards. The film is the latest documentary creation from Oscar-winning filmmaker Asif Kapadia, known for his docs Senna, Amy, Diego Maradona, and others. 2073 is a hybrid doc - featuring a live-action sci-fi segment starring Samantha Morton living in a dystopian future ruined by climate change & authoritarianism (the year 2073); along with doc segments showing how we could get there, giving clear-eyed facts about the rise of right-wing authoritarianism and libertarianism worldwide – which won't stop climate change. Prime Video has revealed the full official trailer for a sports documentary series titled Evolution of the Black Quarterback, getting ready to drop soon with the next NFL season kicking off this month. "We have to raise our voices..." Dogwoof has unveiled an official UK trailer for the acclaimed, award-wining film titled No Other Land, made by a group of four filmmakers from Palestine & Israel. This premiered at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, where it won two major awards - then the filmmakers sadly ended up threatened and the festival didn't properly defend them which is a shame. I caught up with the doc at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival this summer and I very moved and unsettled by its portrayal of life in West Bank. For half a decade, Basel Adra, a Palestinian activist, films his community of Masafer Yatta being destroyed by Israel's occupation, as he builds an unlikely alliance with an Israeli journalist who also wants to join his fight. There is no way anyone can watch this doc and not see, plain as day, what is really going on with Israel doing horrible things to Palestine and treating so many of these simple people so poorly. "Why did this astonishing man end his life exiled from the country he came to define?" Quite a question to ask. Greenwich Ent. has revealed an official US trailer for a UK documentary titled Mad About the Boy: The Noel Coward Story, arriving in the US this October. (Mad About the Boy is also the title of the next Bridget Jones film due out in 2025.) It already opened in the UK last year and is just now making its way to the US for those curious about the story of this enigmatic man. There are moments as a film geek where right in the middle of a film festival screening you are overtaken by the overwhelming feeling that you are watching something that will go down as a major moment in cinema history. It's not often we are lucky enough to encounter such phenomenal filmmaking. It is not often that we are treated to the majesty of cinema that is so profound and powerful it shakes the very foundations of art as we know it. When these rare moments come along, it is vital to relish and speak out passionately about the power that truly majestic cinema can have over us. American filmmaker Brady Corbet's third feature film The Brutalist is one of these major moments in cinema.
