"You do not have the luxury to be good, you have the burden to be better." Netflix has revealed a first look teaser for a film titled The Six Triple Eight, a brand new Tyler Perry production. The Six Triple Eight is inspired by the first & only Women's Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas during World War II. 855 women joined up to fix the 3-year backlog of undelivered mail. Faced with discrimination and devastation of war, they managed to sort more than 17 million pieces of mail ahead of time. Written and directed by Tyler Perry, the film stars Kerry Washington as Major Charity Adams, the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. With an ensemble cast including Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, Sarah Jeffery, Pepi Sonuga, Moriah Brown, Jeanté Godlock, with Susan Sarandon, Dean Norris, and Sam Waterston, and Oprah Winfrey. Watch: Every Frame a Painting’s Video About the ‘Sustained Two-Shot’

"You can just point the camera and let the scene play out... Let the actors do what they do: tell the story." There is a brand new cinema video essay out this week from the iconic YouTube channel known as "Every Frame a Painting". They originally ran from 2014 to 2016 (we posted many back then) then stopped for a while. Now they're back preparing to release a short film called The Second. This video essay is about "The Sustained Two-Shot," which they use in their short film. The two-shot is a filmmaking / cinematography technique of framing two actors in conversation together. Sustained means it keeps going through the scene - with major examples referenced from films like Pulp Fiction, There Will Be Blood, The Dark Knight, Good Will Hunting, La La Land, The Big Lebowski, and many other classics. There's also a famously long one in Steve McQueen's Hunger. If you're a filmmaker or just want to learn more, this is a must watch video essay. Here's the brief intro via YouTube: "What do you do when you've got ...

Full ‘Naughty Cut’ Trailer for ‘Terrifier 3’ Horror Sequel Set at X-Mas

"We both know this isn't over..." Cineverse & Bloody Disgusting have revealed the full-on official trailer for horror sequel Terrifier 3, next in the Terrifier series of gory slashers by director Damien Leone. Ready for its big screen debut in October. In the third film, Art the Clown will unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve. 🎄 Shot in "anamorphic widescreen, so I want it to feel more like an old-school John Carpenter movie. It's going to still have that epic feel of part two, but now have the tone of part one with Christmas. It's going to be a completely different beast... It's going to feel different, but it's still going to have everything you love in it." Starring Jason Patric, Daniel Roebuck, Lauren LaVera, Bryce Johnson, Bradley Stryker, Chris Jericho, and David Howard Thornton back as Art the Clown. This looks as disgusting and as horrifying as the other two movies before it, with more insane footage as Art torments all the people trying to enjoy the ...

First Trailer for Acclaimed Doc ‘Union’ About Chris Smalls and the ALU

"There's nothing that can stop our momentum." The New York Film Festival has debuted an official trailer for a documentary film titled Union, an inside look at one of the recent labor union movements. The film originally premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (it's excellent) and it also played at CPH:DOX, True/False, Full Frame, Hot Docs, and many other doc fests; it will next be showing at NYFF in October. A group of current and former Amazon workers in New York City's Staten Island challenges one of the world's largest companies in a unionization battle. The film tells the story of the rise of Chris Smalls, an Amazon worker who founded the ALU - the Amazon Labor Union - in 2021 after being fired by Amazon. The documentary is a very powerful, vérité-style look at the way grassroots movements and small unions are confronting the modern capitalistic corporate landscape. Along with their own challenges. "The result is an immersive portrait that celebrates solidarity while acknowledging the difficult decisions & internal conflicts that make any collective action ...

Official Trailer for ‘The Radleys’ Dark Comedy About a Vampire Family

"We've wanted to live as normal a life as possible." Sky Cinemas has revealed their official trailer for a dark comedy called The Radleys, arriving in UK cinemas this fall. We missed this trailer when it first appeared but happy to catch up with it. The film just premiered at the 2024 Edinburgh Film Festival last week, though it still has no US date set. It's the story of a seemingly ordinary family with a dark secret: they are vampires. However, they're abstaining vampires. They choose not to drink blood despite their own natural cravings, but their truth is revealed one day. The shocking revelation encourages lovesick son Rowan and previously vegan Clara to question their own identity and suppressed desires. Peter's twin brother Will arrives (played by Damian Lewis in a dual role as both). A proud, practicing vampire who openly embraces his hedonistic, bloodthirsty lifestyle, Will forces the family to face their repressed urges even more intensely. Can the family continue to hold back their hidden bloodlust, or will they give in to their true nature? Lewis stars ...

New 10th Anniversary Trailer for Damien Chazelle’s ‘Whiplash’ Movie

"No two words in the English language more harmful than: 'Good job.'" Sony Classics has announced an official re-release of the 2014 hit film Whiplash, directed by Damien Chazelle. This was the big film that launched his career! I was there back at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival when this premiered and took the festival by storm. Everyone was talking about it non-stop! It won the Audience Award! Then it went on to become a big hit at the box office and it even won some Oscars (J.K. Simmons got one!) and then Damien Chazelle went on to make La La Land next and the rest is history. "A masterpiece returns to theaters for its 10th Anniversary." A promising young drummer enrolls at a cut-throat music conservatory on the East Coast where his dreams of real greatness are mentored by a ruthless instructor who will stop at nothing to realize a student's potential. Whiplash stars Miles Teller as Andrew and J.K Simmons as Fletcher, with Paul Reiser, Melissa Benoist, Austin Stowell, Nate Lang, and Chris Mulkey. This film absolutely ...

Extra Teaser for Sci-Fi Film ‘Meanwhile on Earth’ with Megan Northam

"A stunning sci-fi experience." Metrograph Pics has revealed another teaser for the indie sci-fi film titled Meanwhile on Earth, from French filmmaker Jérémy Clapin. It's now rescheduled to open in November, shifting a few months from the initial September date for a better fit later in the fall. This first premiered at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival earlier in the year. Jérémy Clapin is the same director who made the excellent animated film I Lost My Body, which anyone can now watch on Netflix. In this new film, a young woman is contacted by her missing brother, an astronaut who vanished on a mission, but all is not what it seems in this sci-fi thriller. The intro from Berlinale explains: "Siblings Elsa & Franck were always very close. When Franck mysteriously disappeared during a space mission three years ago, everything changed for Elsa. Since then, the 23-year-old has struggled to move on with her life. One day she is contacted by an unidentified life form who offers to bring her brother back to Earth. But there is a price to ...

Full Trailer for ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ with Keanu Reeves as Shadow

"Project Shadow is far beyond anything we've ever encountered." Keanu as a bad guy! Paramount Pictures has revealed an official trailer for the next Sonic the Hedgehog 3 sequel, which will be landing in theaters in December later this year. Once again directed by Jeff Fowler, this hybrid CGI-animated live-action sequel follows Sonic the Hedgehog 1 (2020) and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) previously. They're knocking these out every 2 years, which is crazy to see it still going remembering the whole weird teeth fiasco with the first movie. New adventure. New rival. All your old friends. Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails reunite against a powerful new adversary, Shadow, a mysterious villain with powers unlike anything they have faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, Team Sonic must seek out an unlikely alliance to defeat him. The full cast includes James Marsden, Ben Schwartz, Tika Sumpter, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, Lee Majdoub, Idris Elba, Krysten Ritter, with Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and Keanu Reeves as Shadow. Just like the other two movies, it looks ...

Laugh At This: Beetlejuice Goes on ‘Hot Ones’ and Argues with Keaton

"Who the hell are you?" Some might know him as... Batman! Warner Bros has dropped in a funny comedy promo for the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sequel. This highly anticipated Burton follow-up is premiering this week at the Venice Film Festival, then opening in theaters the week after. This promo is a riff on the famous Hot Ones YouTube series, featuring comedian Sean Evans interviewing celebrities while they eat chicken wings with burning hot sauce on them. But this is an unofficial riff - so it's literally just the actor Michael Keaton interviewing the character Betelgeuse, resulting in some extra strange moments. But it isn't long enough! Barely 90 seconds! I'd watch a full 15 minute YouTube with these shenanigans, but I guess they'd need the real Sean Evans from Hot Ones on there. (They did recently get Donald Duck on for real in another Hot Ones promo.) Keaton returns as the miscreant Betelgeuse and Winona Ryder stars again as Lydia, in this horror comedy sequel from maestro director Tim Burton. We've already posted all of the trailers for this movie before. ...
