"The family secret... is out for blood." How's that for a tagline? Level 33 Ent. has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled The Shade, which marks the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Tyler Chipman. This one originally premiered at last year's Brooklyn Horror Film Festival, and also played at the FogFest Horror Festival. Following the loss of his father, a grieving 20-year-old struggles to hold his family together as an unspeakable darkness plagues his older brother. He must confront this dark secret to save his family. The horror film stars Chris Galust, Laura Benanti, Michael Boatman, Mariel Molino, and Dylan McTee. Based on Tipman's own short film from 2020. This will have an exclusive theatrical release on screens in the US and Canada in September. Early reviews describe it as "an empathetic, deep dive into suicidal grief" highlighting the film's portrayal of the "bond between its brothers and how these issues bring them together." Take a look at this long lost footage from a reboot of the kid's horror series Are You Afraid of the Dark? that never actually made it into production. Thanks to a tip from the director behind this reboot, a tiny bit of footage has appeared online. Director Jared Pelletier explains "this was shot years ago when the IP was being rebooted." He was developing this for the studio before they greenlit a "lighter version". The original Are You Afraid of the Dark? was a children's horror anthology TV series from D.J. MacHale & Ned Kandel showing on Nickelodeon. It first aired on Nickelodeon from 1992 to 1996, with another different reboot that ran from 2019 to 2022. This teaser footage is for a darker version. Pelletier says, "this version took a darker 90s approach, when shows like Goosebumps were decidedly unafraid to scare kids." "Kim uncovered what he was up to, and now she's missing." Gravitas has revealed an official trailer for an indie thriller called Charlie Tango, a Canadian film about an air traffic controller who gets caught up in a bigger conspiracy. It opens first in Canadian cinemas later this month, before arriving on VOD in the US in September to watch. Kim, an air traffic controller under investigation after a tragic plane crash, is recruited by Charlie, her lover who specializes in lucrative real estate investments. Her police officer husband, Jeff, soon begins to suspect that Charlie is at the head of a major embezzlement scheme. She soon finds herself sucked into a world of financial fraud and manipulation. How will they get out? The movie stars popular Canadian actors David La Haye, Bruce Disnmore, and Stacie Mistysyn, plus Diana Lewis. With an original score by Oliver Palotai, keyboardist for the band Kamelot. "We are not in control." Peacock has revealed the first look teaser trailer for an intriguing new series called Teacup, a sci-fi horror apocalyptic survival series arriving for streaming soon. Trapped on a farm in rural Georgia, a group of neighbors must put aside their differences to unite in the face of a mysterious, deadly threat. Set for a release starting in October - just in time for horror season, of course. Executive produced by James Wan, he explains: "Teacup defies easy labels... It's a genre-bending blend of horror, mystery, and drama, with layers that unfold like a captivating puzzle." The original novel it's "inspired by" titled "Stinger" takes place over the course of a single day in a town called Inferno, TX. It's visited by two different UFOs - one of which contains an extraterrestrial hunter known only as "Stinger". So it's a battle between two aliens and humans are caught in the middle of it all? Magnolia Pictures has debuted their own official US trailer for the Korean horror thriller film titled simply Sleep (or 잠 in Korean), an indie creation from filmmaker Jason Yu. This is his feature directorial debut after working as an assistant director for Bong Joon-ho on Okja and other films. It's finally getting a proper US release in theaters and on VOD this fall after playing on the festival circuit for a year. "When he sleeps, someone awakes..." A pregnant wife who becomes worried about her husband’s sleeping habits. What starts out as some light sleep-talking soon escalates to unexpectedly grotesque behaviour. They consult a sleep clinic without success and as his nightmarish behaviour escalates, they desperately seek help from a shaman. "You have secrets. Many... that you'll never share." Roadside has revealed another trailer for Lee, a biopic movie about the famed war photographer Lee Miller starring Kate Winslet as Lee. It's set for a release later in September - which is why they're giving it a big marketing push now. This first premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival last year, and also played at AFI Fest. The story begins in the South of France, 1938, where Lee Miller is vacationing with a few of her closest friends who are artists, poets, confidants. She was a fashion model who became an acclaimed war correspondent for Vogue magazine during WWII. Her singular talent & unbridled tenacity resulted in some of the 20th century's most indelible images of war, including an iconic photo of Miller herself, posing defiantly in Hitler's private bathtub. "She's taking over the house!" This looks nuts! A24 has revealed a second trailer for a horror thriller titled The Front Room, marking the feature directorial debut of the Eggers Brothers - Max & Sam. They're also brothers of the filmmaker Robert Eggers (of The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman) and worked with him on a few of those films, too. This new original horror film in ready to land theaters early in September. The Front Room is about a young, newly pregnant couple who must suddenly take in an ailing, estranged stepmother. A24 describes it as: the incomparable Brandy returns to horror in a legendary face-off against Kathryn Hunter, the wickedest mother-in-law of them all. Starring singer / actress Brandy Norwood as Belinda, with Andrew Burnap, Neal Huff, and Kathryn Hunter. "You're just another man hunting for a trophy... just like our father." Sony has quietly revealed the second trailer for Kraven the Hunter, which has been reset for a release in December at the end of this year. This anti-hero, R-rated Sony comic book adaptation is based on the Marvel character, inspired by the Russian hunter from The Most Dangerous Game story. Kraven was originally as a renowned big-game hunter whose goal in life is to beat Spider-Man to prove himself as the world's greatest hunter. In this adaptation, Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as the Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff - who is on a mission to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world. "Villains aren't born. They're made." The full cast includes Russell Crowe as his dad, Ariana DeBose, Christopher Abbott, Alessandro Nivola as The Rhino, Fred Hechinger as Chameleon. Fathom Events has debuted a new trailer for a 25th Anniversary special event re-release screening of The Matrix in theaters nationwide this September. The seminal sci-fi classic made by The Wachowskis originally opened in theaters in 1999, in the spring earlier that year. It will play again on the big screen in September for two nights - on the 19th and 22nd.
