Intense Red Band Trailer for ‘Out Come the Wolves’ Survival Thriller
"There haven't been wolves in this area for years!" IFC Films + Shudder have unveiled an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Out Come the Wolves, the latest horror from filmmaker Adam MacDonald (of Backcountry and Pyewacket). This intense Canadian survival thriller set in the backwoods is about a woman who must fight two kinds of wolves - animals living in nature, and jealous human males. 🐺 Watch out. At a remote cabin deep in the wilderness, a weekend of hunting with three people turns to mayhem and a fight for survival when a pack of wolves suddenly attack a man, his best friend, and her fiance. "Sophie is forced to rely on her hunting prowess to face the deadly predators and save the one closest to her heart." Of course. Starring Missy Peregrym as Sophie, Joris Jarsky and Damon Runyan. I thought we'd moved on from using wolves as the villains in survival movies, but I guess they're a metaphor this time. Just makes me want to (re)watch that Liam Neeson survival movie The Grey instead, in ...
Wacky ‘Tickets On Sale’ Trailer for Tim Burton’s ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’
"You're a figment of my imagination!" Warner Bros has launched a funky 60-scond trailer for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice to announce that advance tickets are now on sale. This highly anticipated sequel will premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival on Opening Night (at the end of August), before hitting theaters right after. Beetlejuice 2 continues the story with the very same family. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia Deetz's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the peculiar model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened (once again). Michael Keaton returns as the miscreant Betelgeuse + Winona Ryder stars again as Lydia, joined by an exuberant full cast featuring Jenna Ortega as Astrid, Catherine O'Hara, Monica Bellucci, Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, Burn Gorman, and Filipe Cates; plus Willem Dafoe as a ghost detective who, in his life, was a B movie action star. This is such a kooky trailer, starting out with Beetlejuice singing the 80s classic "Right Here Waiting" then ending with all manner of bonkers afterlife shenanigans. ...
Saoirse Ronan Heads Up to Orkney in ‘The Outrun’ Official US Trailer
"But there is only so much height any wave can sustain, before it comes crashing down." Sony Pictures Classics has revealed the official US trailer for The Outrun, which premiered at both the 2024 Sundance & Berlin Film Festivals earlier this year. It's the exact same trailer as the UK trailer from before but with new quotes. This acclaimed film is based on Amy Liptrot's memoir, the story of an alcoholic woman who returns to her homeland - the remote Orkney Islands located off the northern coast of Scotland at the very top of the UK. After living life on the edge in London, Rona attempts to come to terms with her past. She returns to the wild beauty of Orkney (where she grew up) hoping to heal. Starring Saoirse Ronan as Rona in one of her best performances yet. The Outrun is a searingly honest drama about addiction, survival and the power of nature to restore life and renew hope. This is one of my favorite films of 2024 so far (here's my full review), it'll likely remain on ...
Mystery Horror Thriller ‘Winter Island’ Trailer Starring Elijah Carnazzo
"I want to find my sister... not rid the world of evil." 4Digital Media has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror thriller film titled Winter Island, the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Tony Doupé. This premiered at a few horror festivals already earlier this year, and it'll be out to watch on VOD in the US in Spetember just before October's horror season. When a young girl is found dead on a small, wooded island, her teenage brother's postmortem visions point to an evil presence within their own family. He soon comes across eerie, potentially supernatural phenomena and begins to suspect the worst. The horror stars Elijah Carnazzo as Galen, Jason Adkins, Ashlyn Harlos, Katie Prentiss. Early reviews describe the film as "a classic ghost story in the tradition of some of the best titles the subgenre has to offer." The trailer pretty clearly hints at the religious undertones within this story, which are no doubt connected to the girl's death.

First Trailer for Trio of New ‘Untold’ Sports History Stories from Netflix
"If I'm a bad guy, then everyone in football is a bad guy." Netflix has unveiled an official trailer for the next round of documentaries as part of their Untold doc series. This doc offering first launched in 2021, created by Chapman Way & Maclain Way (of Wild Wild Country), telling some of the greatest sports history stories that have never been told before this way (here's the first trailer for the original 2021 season) The critically acclaimed docu series returns with three new stories for 2024, pulling back the curtain on epic tales from the wide (and wild) world of sports. From the shocking murder of former NFL MVP Steve "Air" McNair to the first ever sit-down with Connor Stalions at the center of the Michigan college football sign-stealing scandal to the story of Hope Solo, a complicated icon of women's soccer – these new stories go well beyond the headlines and upend what we thought we knew. There's always way more going on than any of us know! This time the new docs will debut within three weeks ...

Extensive Behind-the-Scenes Look at ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ in NYC
"He really wanted different tones and textures and themes." Paramount has unveiled an 8-minute behind-the-scenes featurette for the sci-fi prequel A Quiet Place: Day One, which is now available on digital to watch at home (and on VOD soon). If you haven't caught up with it yet, this movie is one of the best summer blockbusters of 2024 and I highly recommend it. This behind-the-scenes promo video spends time exploring the making of the movie from all angles - story, cinematography, apocalyptic setting, etc. It's a nice look at what went into creating this sci-fi prequel. Lupita Nyong'o stars as a woman named Sam who gets caught up in the apocalyptic New York City mayhem when the alien creatures arrive and attack. As every street goes quiet, she is thrown together with a man named Eric. With some reluctance, the pair agree to navigate and survive the city together. The cast also includes Joseph Quinn, Djimon Hounsou, and Alex Wolff. It's directed by filmmaker Michael Sarnoski, with cinematography by Pat Scola, both of whom are included in this featurette. Clearly ...
Antonio Banderas & Melissa Leo in Thriller ‘The Clean Up Crew’ Trailer
"Things are about to get so much worse." Saban has revealed the official trailer for a movie called The Clean Up Crew, an action-heavy crime thriller from filmmaker Jon Keeyes. He's been churning out tons of these junk action movies, mostly with Antonio Banderas recently, and I'm not sure who even watches them. In this, when a crime scene cleanup crew discovers a briefcase full of money, they are unwittingly sent into a battle with a ruthless and corrupt crime boss, mobsters, hitmen, and corrupt government agents who are hell-bent on getting it back. Sounds like every other script about people who find money. Starring Antonio Banderas, Melissa Leo, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, with Swen Temmel, Ekaterina Baker, Leslie Stratton, Conor Mullen, and Matthew Tompkins. It's another of these eerily similar films, as there's also Wolfs about clean up guys who get into trouble when they're booked for the same job. This film is being dumped on VOD, while Wolfs is going to Venice. If you're still into this anyway, check out the trailer below.

Official Trailer for Shelly Yo’s ‘Smoking Tigers’ Indie Coming-of-Age
"We can't afford to make mistakes like others..." The trailer has debuted for an indie film titled Smoking Tigers, a coming-of-age story about a young woman which is also the feature directorial debut of Korean-American filmmaker So Young Shelly Yo. This premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival last year, and won Best screenplay & Best Performance, before picking up awards at the Denver & Austin Film Festivals as well. Over one summer spent at an elite academic bootcamp, a lonely Korean-American teenager hides her problematic family & lower-income background to fit in with her new wealthy friends, only to discover the bittersweet pains of adulthood. The film is "about traversing the demands of being a young, first-generation American grappling with teenage angst while lifting up the family members struggling (and at times flailing) around you." The film stars Ji-Young Yoo, Jung Joon Ho, Abin Andrews, Erin Choi, Erin Yoo, and Phinehas Yoon. It looks like a distinctly stylish and deeply personal story about identity and growing up.

Michelle Yeoh is Badass in First Teaser for ‘Star Trek: Section 31’ Movie
"Somebody's gotta keep it lively, right?" During San Diego Comic-Con, Paramount+ revealed the first look teaser trailer for an intriguing new Star Trek spin-off movie called Star Trek: Section 31. It's not a series, it's a one-time movie "event" - connected to the recent "Star Trek: Discovery" series. It is intended to be the first real TV movie in the ST franchise and part of producer Alex Kurtzman's expanded Star Trek Universe. Section 31 stars Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh as Emperor Philippa Georgiou, who becomes an agent for a secret division of Starfleet. Tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets, she also must face the sins of her past. The cast includes Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, Sam Richardson, Sven Ruygrok, Robert Kazinsky, Humberly Gonzalez, and James Hiroyuki Liao. This looks a bit funky - definitely a departure from what most expect, but it seems like they're having fun with dark humor, villains, and other sides of Starfleet we don't usually see. This is basically Star Trek's Suicide Squad - same setup with the crew.
Here's the first teaser trailer for ...
