‘Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person’ Full US Trailer
"Your daughter's compassion is triggered when she sees humans dying." Drafthouse FIlms has debuted an official US trailer for an acclaimed dark comedy vampire horror film titled Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person hailing from Quebec. This one originally premiered at the 2023 Venice & Toronto Film Festivals last year, and has been playing at more festivals this year. Sasha is a young vampire with a serious problem: she's too sensitive to kill! When her exasperated parents cut off her blood supply (literally), Sasha's life is in jeopardy. Luckily, she meets Paul, a lonely teen willing to give his life to save hers. Their friendly agreement soon becomes a nocturnal quest to fulfill Paul's last wishes before day breaks. Starring Sara Montpetit as Sasha, with Félix-Antoine Bénard as Paul, Steve Laplante, Sophie Cadieux, and Noémie O'Farrell. I raved in my Venice review: "What a great, bloody vampire gem, easy to watch and fall for, enjoyable in its simplicity with this concept." An cult classic in the making! The kind of film others will only discover years from now, but you ...
Freaky Trailer for Sci-Fi Tech Horror Thriller ‘Latency’ with Sasha Luss
"The more you wear the Omnia, the faster it will learn." Lionsgate has unveiled the official trailer for an indie tech horror thriller called Latency, from filmmaker James Croke. This is another of these intriguing A.I. horror films, more of a sci-fi thriller, though it also has some scary moments in it. Starring Sasha Luss (Anna) and Alexis Ren (The Enforcer), Latency marks the feature debut of writer / director James Croke. This sci-fi thriller follows a professional gamer battling acute agoraphobia, tasked with testing new gaming equipment powered by A.I. - capable of reading her mind. As they experiment with this new tech, the line between reality and Hana's subconscious begins to blur and she starts to wonder if the device is helping her or serving a more sinister force. A.I. serving a more sinister force? Yes, it definitely is (that sinister force being greed). This looks a bit derivative, but also seems like some fun set-in-one-room sci-fi horror to enjoy.

Chuck Norris Fights Back in Sci-Fi Action Film ‘Agent Recon’ Trailer
"Earth needs its greatest heroes." Quiver Distr. has revealed an official trailer for a super cheesy action sci-fi thriller called Agent Recon, the latest from filmmaker Derek Ting after Agent Revelation a few years ago. This brings back the iconic action mega star Chuck Norris for one more showdown on screen – sporting a minigun this time. A covert military task force tracks an energy disturbance at a secret base in New Mexico that is suspected of experimenting on alien technology. Once there, the team encounters an unknown being of extraordinary strength and speed, and an army of mindless warriors. The trio must battle these hordes to prevent humanity's demise. Starring Chuck Norris, Marc Singer, Derek Ting, Sylvia Kwan, Jason Scott Jenkins, and Nikki Leigh. "My stunt team pushed the boundaries of my vision for clear grounded action elevated with motivated storytelling, and we had Chuck's son Dakota come on board to choreograph all of his father's fight sequences," Ting explains. This doesn't look too bad - it might end up being a fun one.

Watch: Oscar-Nominated Stunning ‘The Flying Sailor’ Animated Short
And away he goes... This mesmerizing animated short initially premiered in 2022 and is available online to watch thanks to The New Yorker. The Flying Sailor is the creation of a Canadian animation team known as "Tilby/Forbis". The short is directly inspired by the 1917 Halifax Explosion, particularly the account of a sailor who was blown away and found unharmed, but completely naked. It ended up nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the Oscars in 2023. In 1917, two ships collided in the Halifax Harbour, causing the largest accidental explosion in history. Among the tragic stories of the disaster is the remarkable account of a sailor who, blown skyward from the docks, flew 2KM before landing uphill, naked & unharmed. The Flying Sailor is a contemplation of his journey. Drawing on reports of traumatic shock & near-death experiences, animators Wendy Tilby & Amanda Forbis consider the kind of cataclysmic moment that pulls us from our path, strips us bare & utterly shifts our perspective. It is "an exhilarating meditation on a few seconds of a life, and a celebration ...

Another Trailer for ‘The Present’ Time Travel Comedy with Isla Fisher
"What are we supposed to do with a giant, broken clock that nobody wants?" Gravitas Venture in the US has unveiled a new official US trailer for a wacky time travel comedy about a family called The Present. It's set for a US debut in June after opening first in the UK this month. A boy discovers that he can manipulate time using a family heirloom - an old grandfather clock. He teams up his siblings in returning to the time of their parents' initial separation in hopes of changing the outcome and stopping them from divorcing. Oh boy, that sounds awkward. Actors Isla Fisher & Greg Kinnear star as the parents, with an ensemble cast including Ryan Guzman, Shay Rudolph, Amir Talai, Alphonso McAuley, Easton Rocket Sweda, Sarah Jane MacKay, Mason Shea Joyce, and Eric Tiede. This plays a bit better than the other trailer we posted before, but it still seems like made-for-streaming cheesiness. Might be amusing enough to enjoy.
