Daisy Ridley is Swimmer Trudy Ederle in ‘Young Woman and the Sea’

"C'mon girl, kick your feet!" Disney has revealed an official trailer for their summer movie Young Woman and the Sea, based on the true story of the first woman to ever swim across the English Channel. It's set to open at the end of May and we've been waiting to finally see a trailer. "21 miles and a nice day for a swim." Daisy Ridley stars as Trudy Ederle, an American woman who grew up in Manhattan and learned to swim in New Jersey. After winning a gold medal at the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris, she eventually made the incredible English Channel swim from France to England in 1926 at the age of 20. This also co-stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler. It's directed by Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning (of Kon-Tiki and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), adapted from Glenn Stout's book, and produced by the Jerry Bruckheimer, making it a major Disney release arriving this summer. New 2024 Trailer for Rideshare Horror ‘The Stranger’ w/ Maika Monroe

"You wanna know how this ends?" Hulu has revealed an official trailer for an intense horror thriller titled The Stranger, arriving for streaming this month. Not to be confused with the British series The Stranger, or the Australian crime film The Stranger. Some of you may recognize this, it was initially conceived as an hour-by-hour series for the app Quibi. After that app went under, it's been re-edited and reset for release as a feature film streaming on Hulu, but without much fanfare. Maika Monroe stars as a recent transplant to the Los Angeles Valley scraping by as a rideshare driver. One night, she picks up Carl at a Hollywood Hills Mansion. He appears pleasant at first, but that facade is shattered when he reveals himself to be a violent, misogynistic murderer. There have been a few other rideshare horror recently including Spree and Ride. Co-starring Dane DeHaan and Avan Jogia. This still doesn't look very good and this trailer is way too short. Here's the new official trailer (+ teaser poster) for Veena Sud's The Stranger, direct from YouTube: Starring breakout ...

Aaron Eckhart & Olga Kurylenko in Action Film ‘Chief of Station’ Trailer

"You once asked me to work for you, now I'm asking you to work for me." Vertical has revealed the official trailer for another Jesse V. Johnson-directed action thriller film titled Chief of Station, which means you can pretty much ignore this right away and skip it entirely. Unless this kind of bland action is your jam. The trailer below is free to watch at least (Johnson also directed the Boudica movie last year). This one drops on VOD to watch in early May. After learning the untimely death of his wife was not accidental, a former CIA Station Chief is forced back into the espionage underworld in Eastern Europe, teaming up with an adversary to unravel a conspiracy that challenges everything he thought he knew. Aaron Eckhart stars as Ben, along with Alex Pettyfer, Olga Kurylenko, Nick Moran, Chris Petrovski, Daniel Bernhardt, Laetitia Eido, James Faulkner, Isobel Wood, and Nina Bergman. Looks like it has some brutal, heavy-hitting hand-to-hand combat, though I'm not sure it offers much else. Only worth a watch if you're an Eckhart fan. Here's the official ...

Official Trailer for ‘I Used to be Funny’ Dramedy with Rachel Sennott

"I'm worried that you're still not leaving the house." "I showered today..." Utopia has revealed the official trailer for an indie dark comedy titled I Used to be Funny, the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Ally Pankiw. This premiered at last year's SXSW Film Festival and played at the Woodstock, Nashville, Calgary, and Stockholm Film Festivals as well. The film is about Sam, a stand-up comedian struggling with PTSD, who weighs whether or not to join the search for a missing teenage girl she used to nanny. "Writer / director Ally Pankiw's debut feature is both funny and heartbreaking in its honest and refreshing look at trauma and recovery, and how they affect the relationships and communities that shape us." Starring Rachel Sennott as Sam, with Olga Pesta, Jason Jones, Sabrina Jalees, Caleb Hearon, and Ennis Esmer. This seems a bit odd and off-beat, due to the weight of all these emotions it's trying to address in this story. Have a look. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Ally Pankiw's I Used to be Funny, direct from YouTube: I Used To ...

The exquisite ensemble cast in this: Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe, Margaret Qualley, Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Mamoudou Athie, Hunter Schafer, and Krystal Alayne Chambers. Joel Edgerton & Jennifer Connelly in Sci-Fi Series ‘Dark Matter’ Trailer

"What if the person that abducted me is me?" Apple TV has unveiled the first official trailer for their next new sci-fi series titled Dark Matter, adapted from the acclaimed book of the same name by Blake Crouch. Crouch (who also created the series "Good Behavior") is adapting and showrunning this new series, which is about a physicist who is kidnapped and sent to a parallel universe where another version of his life unfolds because of a different choice he made years previously. The story draws on the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics which posits that every possible outcome of every decision creates a new universe or world that runs parallel to our own. Joel Edgerton stars as a man abducted into an alternate version of his life. Amid the mind-bending landscape of lives he could've lived, he embarks on a harrowing journey to get back to his true family and save them from a most terrifying foe: himself. Final Trailer for Krasinski’s ‘IF’ Movie w/ Ryan Reynolds & Steve Carell

"We have to help them!" "Yes we do." Paramount has revealed their main official trailer for IF, written and directed by John Krasinski inbetween his other A Quiet Place movies. The first teaser trailer arrived in December, setting up the premise and introducing many of the characters. The film follows a young girl who goes through a difficult experience and then begins to see everyone's imaginary friends who have been left behind as their real-life (human) friends have grown up. She teams up with Reynolds to try and find new kids to connect all the leftover characters. IF (which stands for "Imaginary Friend") stars Ryan Reynolds, John Krasinski, Cailey Fleming, and Fiona Shaw, with the voices of Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Louis Gossett Jr. and Steve Carell, including many more as the wonderfully unique characters that reflect the incredible power of a child's imagination. This looks super fun! Steve Carrel as the voice of the big purple floof seems like a great idea. All the other characters are kooky & funny. I'm down for this. What about you? Here's the second & final ...

2024 Cannes Film Festival Selection – Coppola, Audiard, Lanthimos

Every year, cinephiles wake up early for the announcement from France of the films playing at the Cannes Film Festival. For the 77th Cannes Film Festival taking place this May, they have revealed a worldwide selection of intriguing new films, featuring new works from well-established filmmakers (the usual for this festival), as well as some first-timers. Cannes is continuing in its usual spot in late May, running from May 14th to 25th, kicking things off with George Miller's highly anticipated Furiosa. Just over a month until the fest opens. The selection last year included a number of major films that went on to impact cinema after Cannes - including Killers of the Flower Moon, Robot Dreams, The Zone of Interest, Anatomy of a Fall, La Chimera, The Taste of Things. This year I'm excited to watch Anora, Kinds of Kindness, The Substance, The Surfer, The Shrouds, Megalopolis, and many others. The current tally is 54 films (for now) in the line-up. As usual, a few last minute additions will be added - we'll update later. View the full list of ...
