"Everyone has a reason for being, and every player has a story to tell." Netflix has revealed a full trailer for a sports comedy called The Beautiful Game, arriving for streaming globally on Netflix later this March. Another new feature directed by British filmmaker Thea Sharrock opening this year, along with her comedy Wicked Little Letters set for US release also in March. The legendary Bill Nighy stars as Mal, the manager of England's homeless football team. He decides to take his players to Rome with the hope of being crowned champions of the Homeless World Cup, a global street soccer tournament. (Yes it really exists.) At the last minute he decides to bring a talented striker Vinny, who could give them a real chance at winning. Made with the support of the Homeless World Cup, and produced by Colin Farrell, The Beautiful Game is a film of second chances – where homeless teams from around the world find that all roads lead to Rome. In addition to Nighy, the film stars Micheal Ward as Vinny, Susan Wokoma, Callum Scott ...
Funny Inside Look Promo for the ‘Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin’
"'Historically accurate' is subjective." Apple TV has unveiled a funny promo featurette for the wacky British comedy series The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin, launching streaming to watch on March 1st (this weekend!!). Noel Fielding stars Dick Turpin, the most dangerous highway robber of the 18th century. It's based on a true story. Sort of. This comedy series is a fictional take on the life of highway robber Dick Turpin – originally Richard Turpin, an English highwayman whose exploits were romanticised following his execution in York for horse theft. By the early 1730s, he had joined a gang of deer thieves and, later, became a poacher, burglar, horse thief and killer. This is his story. Though it's all made up, at least most of it is, and some of it isn't. Co-starring alongside Fielding in the ensemble cast: Ellie White, Marc Wootton, Duayne Boachie, Hugh Bonneville, Tamsin Greig, Asim Chaudhry, Dolly Wells, Joe Wilkinson, Mark Heap, Samuel Leakey, and Kiri Flaherty. If you weren't sold from the first trailer, maybe this video will convince you this looks like it's going ...

Trailer for Comedy ‘Relative’ About a Dysfunctional Family in Chicago
"I don't want an empty nest!" Music Box Films has posted their official trailer for an indie drama about a family titled Relative, from filmmaker Michael Glover Smith. This originally premiered back in 2022, but we have only caught up with it now and haven't ever posted about this film before. It played at a few small film festivals in 2022/2023, with a very limited release in art house theaters around the country. As various members of the Frank family come together for a college graduation party in Chicago, they find their bonds being tested, and strengthened, in surprising ways. The story focuses on the parents of four kids, who decide to announce that they're about to sell the house they grew up in. "Relative is a warm blend of comedy and drama about a modern American family." This stars Wendy Robie, Francis Guinan, Cameron Scott Roberts, Clare Cooney, Keith D. Gallagher, Emily Lape, Melissa DuPrey, and Elizabeth Stam. The review quoted all over this marketing says that it's an "impeccably cast [and] superbly directed" film from Chicago. A handful ...
Berlinale 2024: A Story of Romance and Politics in ‘Langue Étrangère’
Another film about the young generations of today and their fervent involvement in politics. They're a dime a dozen nowadays. Does this one have anything unique or compelling to say? I'm always curious to find out, though way too many films these days often misunderstand what's going on out there and how politics are getting worse. They also often misunderstand why there are so many kids riled up to go protest, speak out about politics, and fight back as radical activists. I'm a bit worried that is the case with this new film, too... Langue Étrangère is a French-German co-production directed by the French filmmaker Claire Burger (following Party Girl and Real Love), premiering at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival in the Main Competition. It's not a bad film, with some intriguing performances, though far from being a great film. It's also a lesbian romance about two young women who begin developing feelings for each other. One of the film's problems is it can't settle on which side of this story to focus on, instead mixing the two themes to ...
‘Johatsu – Into Thin Air’ Doc Trailer on Japan’s Disappearing People
"In this neighborhood, nobody cares if your name is real or fake." There's an interesting new documentary film premiering at festivals soon titled Johatsu - Into Thin Air, which is co-directed by the German doc filmmaker Andreas Hartmann + Japanese doc filmmaker Arata Mori. It's premiering soon at both the 2024 Thessaloniki Documentary Festival first then right after at the CPH:DOX Festival in Copenhagen in March. No other release dates or details are available - as it's just being unveiled now. In Japan 🇯🇵, thousands of people disappear voluntarily every year. And there are companies ready to help those who want to disappear without a trace and start a new life somewhere else anonymously. Meet some of them in a film that soberly examines a modern phenomenon. Known as the Johatsu – 'evaporated' – they abandon their lives to start anew, sometimes with professional assistance and leaving others behind. The doc film also introduces to the "night movers" who help people quietly move. This looks way more appealing than I expected, featuring interviews with a few of the people who ...

Watch: Superb Baseball Movie Montage – Take Me Out to the Ball Game
"How about you and I be honest about what each of us want out of this – I want to milk the last ounce of baseball you got in you." Who doesn't love baseball movies?! America's past-time has made for some great cinema, with hundreds of beloved movies over the years dedicated to the sport. There's a baseball movies montage going around social media recently (it's embedded below) posted by the "Baseball History Nut" account saying: "Someone made a baseball movie montage and it actually deserves an Oscar. Thank you to whoever made this." The version posted on Twitter is actually a cut down version of a "Baseball on Film" video created by a YouTube user named "Adam K" that first appeared around 8 years ago. (They're always digging up content from the past.) Even though it may be an older video, still worth a watch. From comedies like Major League and The Sandlot, to classics like Field of Dreams and For Love of the Game, to modern favorites like Moneyball, shots from every good baseball movie are included. It's ...
Full Trailer for Ireland’s ‘The Troubles: A Dublin Story’ with Ray Malone
"You are both here of your own free will..." Good Deed Entertainment has revealed a trailer for an indie drama tilted The Troubles: A Dublin Story, yet another film from Ireland looking back at their history during the violent times known as "The Troubles." This is set for a US release online directly in March (just in time for St. Patrick's Day), after initially premiering back in 2022 with a stop at the Newport Beach Film Fest that fall. Two Dublin brothers must navigate loyalty, honor and the dangerous world of republicanism as they fuel the Provisional IRA’s war machine... by any means necessary. The indie film stars Ray Malone, Adam Redmond, William Delaney, Sophia Adli, and Sarah Hayden. Reviews for the film state that, "in the end, it feels like another typical crime story, rather than having the political message it should have." Being dumped online after two years after the premiere is not a good sign this is going to be worth a watch.
Here's the official US trailer (+ poster) for Luke Hanlon's The Troubles: A Dublin Story, ...
