2022 Highlight #1: We updated our website in May 2022 to make exploring easier

The last few years have changed how people shop for their beauty products, and it highlighted the fact that our website was in major need of an upgrade to give you the best experience possible! We worked hard to make it easier for you to find what you're looking for from the comfort of your couch because our community deserves an online shopping experience that resembles shopping in-store with our beauty experts and makeup artists. Each guest that comes through our doors at our Dallas, TX, showroom gets personalized recommendations based on what they're shopping for, and this 2022 highlight brought you one step closer to that experience!

We added new 'filters' like formula, coverage, and finish on our website so you could zero in on the product you want - like searching for a cream foundation with full coverage and a natural finish.

We also added the ability to shop by concern, so if you are looking for skincare that can help with texture, cover or treat dark spots, or provide extra moisture, you'll find products specific to your own beauty needs with a simple click! Are you a makeup artist (or want to Shop Like a PRO)? We have a collection of kit essentials curated for you! Finally, we launched our first quiz to help you find the hair care that's right for your individual needs!

2022 Highlight #2: We added more hair care to our assortment than ever

We take the feedback and requests from our beauty community seriously, and we sent a survey to our most loyal customers in 2021 to learn what our customers wanted us to offer more of. The answer: hair care! 2022 Highlight #3: Celebrating what beauty means to YOU with our I Am Camera Ready Campaign

The number of new beauty trends and products in 2022 was dizzying, and it left a lot of makeup lovers feeling overwhelmed.

We ran our I Am Camera Ready Campaign in the fall of 2022 to remind folks that there's no true definition of what beauty should look like and that it's okay if you don't feel the need to wear makeup all the time or feel compelled to try the latest trends. To us, the world of beauty and beauty products should be inclusive and a means of personal expression.  

We partnered with some of the biggest names in the beauty industry like @Paintedbyspencer, Danessa Myricks, Theresa is Dead, and more to share this message through Instagram Lives, blogs, tutorials, and more. Making new year's resolutions doesn't have to be a daunting process! In fact, some of the best resolutions are the ones we make year-round. However, if you're the type that loves to set a list of goals or to-do to jumpstart a new year, we have three easy-to-keep goals in mind that will keep your beauty collection in tip-top shape in 2023 (and beyond)!

Our top 3 beauty resolutions worth keeping for 2023 are:

Beauty Resolution #1: Wash and Disinfect Your Makeup Brushes and Tools Regularly

We often feel like a broken record with this tip, but there are plenty of reasons we will always include washing your makeup brushes regularly to our list of to-dos for beauty lovers. Cleaning and disinfecting your makeup brushes will help increase the lifespan of your tools, decrease the risk of having breakouts (or worse) from bacteria, and will ensure your makeup application is as easy and seamless as the brush developers intended.

If you don’t wash your brushes, the buildup of products can impact how pigment clings on the bristles or fibers and will impact how your tools perform. Each brush is crafted carefully with the angle of the bristles or fibers designed to lay down the product in a specific way, and if you don’t wash them regularly, the angle can change.

As for germs, cleaning and disinfecting your tools will help keep unwanted bacteria at bay. We offer plenty of disinfectants created specifically for your makeup brushes and tools to ensure they don’t damage delicate bristles or fibers. PRO Tip: If you're a makeup artist or share your beauty products with others, we also highly recommend sanitizing your products with products formulated specifically for cosmetic products. This will ensure the textures and shades do not change as you disinfect them.

Beauty Resolution for 2023 #3: Keep Your Makeup, Hair Care, and Skincare Products Organized

Finally, this is a tip we’re sharing with makeup artists in mind because they’re the masters of keeping track of their products!

Staying organized is an essential part of being a makeup artist from ensuring you never run out of your most used shades to purging your kit of any expiring products (check out our guide on makeup expiration dates). We’ve helped them curate their kits since 2003 with the best makeup bags and cases, de-potting tools (including a makeup repair kit in case of makeup breakage!), and empty palettes and pouches to help you organize your products.

If you’re the type that has backups of products to ensure you don’t run out, it can be handy to write on the packaging or create labels to indicate when you opened or purchased them, and if you’re trying to track product usage, even take note of when you finished each item! Viral Makeup Products: Ben Nye Pretty Pink Powder, RCMA Cream Foundation, Kryolan Fixing Spray, and Senna Brow Book on TikTok and YouTube

We had to group Ben Nye Pretty Pink Powder, RCMA Cream Foundation, Kryolan Fixing Spray, and Senna Brow Book together because the talented @Paintedbyspencer sang their praises on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube during various times this year!

He first shared a video about RCMA Cream Foundation in his "Gatekeep Reveal" TikTok in April, and the coverage he achieved was beautiful! If you've wanted to try this product for yourself, we sell samples that are perfect for shade matching, too!

Soon after, he shared a "dupe" video showing how Ben Nye Pretty Pink achieved the same rosy and brightening effect as Huda Beauty Cherry Blossom Powder. He also pointed out Ben Nye Pretty Pink is a fraction of the cost, and we created a blog with PRO Makeup Artist and Educator Terri Tomlinson to explain why it works (and to remind folks Pretty Pink was created decades ago!).

In a YouTube video in December 2022, Spencer shared a video singing the praises of all Ben Nye powders and the variety of shades offered to achieve different looks.

Since then, he also shared more posts showing how to use the Senna Brow Book to contour and create a subtle eye look and talked about the impressive makeup setting power of Kryolan Professional Make-Up Fixing Spray, a PRO favorite setting spray, in his Best of 2022 YouTube Video.

Viral Makeup Products: Alcone Stop the Sweat and Ben Nye Final Seal on TikTok

This summer, Alcone Stop the Sweat and the already viral Ben Nye Final Seal (check out Jackie's Aina video in our other blog about Viral Products!) went viral again on TikTok after one user shared how it kept her makeup on despite the excessive sweating and oil production on her face.

Both of these products have been used by professional makeup artists and performers alike to slow down the oil production process that normally breaks down your makeup and to also seal the products to prevent them from being worn down by external factors like humidity, light friction from rubbing, and even light splashes of water!

Viral Makeup Product: Peter Thomas Roth Instant FirmX Eye on TikTok

If you saw the video of a woman using Peter Thomas Roth Instant FirmX Eye on TikTok, odds are your jaws hit the floor and you instantly ran to Google to see where you could buy this "eyelift in a tube". While the results are incredible, it's important to remember the instant lifting results are temporary. It does include skincare ingredients to provide anti-aging benefits, but don't expect the lifting effect to be permanent.

PRO Tip: Less is more with this product. If you apply too much, it may leave a slight white residue, so we recommend applying a little to your skin first to test how much you need.  

Viral Makeup Products: Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder & Lightwork Volume 4 Transcendence Palette

It was a great year for Danessa Myricks Beauty products! From new and limited edition shades of her popular Infinite Chrome Flakes that went viral in 2021 to the introduction of her Yummy Skin complexion line, Danessa Myricks kept delighting us with her new releases.

This year, her two most popular (and undeniably viral) products were the Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder (samples available here) and the Danessa Myricks Beauty Lightwork Volume 4 Transcendence Palette! If you haven't watched it yet, we recommend checking out our Instagram Live with Danessa Myricks and @Paintedbyspencer where they demo the Transcendence Palette!

Viral Makeup Product: Bdellium 972 Brush on TikTok

Bdellium Tools is a professional brand that creates makeup brushes and tools that live up to makeup artists' standards and needs - in other words, they blend products out with ease, can withstand more frequent washing, and offer unique shapes and sizes to make applying makeup easier and faster. Sounds like a dream, right?  

In May 2022, TikTok user @avonnasunshine shared a video showing how the Bdellium 972 Double Dome Brush magically blended out her foundation in just one swipe. While it may seem like magic, there's a reason why it works so well and why it's worth the hype! The Bdellium team perfected the angle that the bristles needed to be positioned and the two rows of bristles so that you could get twice the blending power with each pass of the brush.

Viral Makeup Product: Scott Barnes Cosmetics Naomi Lip Liner and Avene Cicalfate+ Protective Restorative Cream

When Hailey Bieber shared her perfect brown lip liner combo for fall on TikTok, the demand for the exact liner she used skyrocketed! In her demo, she used Scott Barnes Cosmetics Lip Liner in Naomi, and it sold out in record time.

Viral Makeup Product: Avene Cicalfate+ Protective and Restorative Cream on TikTok

Speaking of Hailey Bieber, we're convinced anything she shares on social media is destinated to become an overnight sensation. In 2022, she shared a video using Avene Cicalfate+ Protective and Restorative Cream, and the Google searches swelled to reach new levels.

This richly nourishing cream is a fantastic option for all skin types but especially handy for those with sensitive skin; it is alcohol free, fragrance free, paraben free, soy free, wheat free, hypoallergenic, and non-comedogenic.

We love @roseandben's ability to teach makeup techniques in a fun, quick, and easy-to-understand way, and her video showing the makeup setting power of Melanie Mills Super Lite Long Lasting Setting Spray still blows us away.

Viral Makeup Product: Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre

It's no surprise that most of our viral products are makeup, so it was great to see some of our favorite skincare products get some social media love, too! Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre has been a must-have for makeup artists for years due to its versatility, gentle yet effective formula, and nourishing ingredients. It's great to prime the skin, to mix with other foundations to sheer out the coverage (especially the RCMA Cream Foundation), and can even be used as a makeup remover.

This summer, we kicked off our I Am Camera Ready campaign to celebrate all forms of beauty to remind everyone that being Camera Ready can take on a new meaning to each and every person. It doesn't matter if you wear makeup, if you style your hair, or just rely on an easy skincare routine to feel your best. To us, being Camera Ready is about doing whatever you want to do to feel confident, comfortable in your own skin, and embracing and celebrating your own beauty!

To help celebrate that, Danessa Myricks and Painted by Spencer shared what it meant to them (check out what they do to get Camera Ready here), and they joined us for a fun and colorful Instagram Live to celebrate the more glittery and vibrant side of beauty with Danessa Myricks' Lightwork Volume 4 Transcendence Palette!

Kit Tour Videos

There's something so satisfying about seeing a neatly organized makeup collection and seeing what products are inside, but makeup artists take that to another level!

The space in their kit (the makeup bag or makeup case they use on set or location to work on their clients) is limited, so each and every product has a purpose, is often depotted and placed into empty palettes to create a custom color story, and most importantly, it's neat and tidy! Our team started taking our social media community on "Kit Tour" videos this year to showcase what products we often pack in our kits, and our artists and makeup lovers alike can't get enough!
