Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film called Stamped From the Beginning, arriving in theaters and for streaming on Netflix later in November this fall. It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, with stops at AFI Fest and DOC NYC. Directed and produced by Roger Ross Williams (of this year's Cassandro, plus Music by Prudence, Love to Love You Donna Summer), Stamped From the Beginning is executive produced by Dr. Kendi and NAACP Image Award winner Mara Brock Akil. Oscar-winning director Williams brings Dr. Ibram X. Kendi's best-selling book titled Stamped From the Beginning to life, using vivid animations and leading female scholars to explore the history of anti-Black racist ideas. Described in rave reviews as "an important & eye-opening film that should be seen by everyone everywhere as it challenges conventional thought on the relationship between Black people and America." "Take back your power, Ralph!!" Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for a film called Manodrome, an indie creation from South African filmmaker John Trengove (director of The Wound previously). This premiered at the Berlin Film Festival to mostly mixed to positive reviews - its a very slick film, although it doesn't particularly stand out much. Conflicted about his girlfriend's pregnancy, Ralphie's life spirals out of control when he meets a mysterious family of men. Manodrome is a clever criticism of toxic masculinity and fragile men who are obsessed with being men (you know the ones). Jesse Eisenberg stars as one of these guys who falls into this kind of cult for men, run by Adrien Brody. Then it gets really crazy... The cast also features Odessa Young, Philip Ettinger, Sallieu Sesay, Ethan Suplee, Evan Joningkeit, and Caleb Eberhardt. I saw this at Berlinale earlier in the year - it's a good film, with some great performances, that quite boldly challenges modern masculinity by showing the reality of just how dull all these men really are. Yet another localized Netflix creation (as part of agreements for each country to utilize local artists / filmmakers) made for Polish audiences being released worldwide on Netflix. When his son mysteriously disappears, an alcohol-addicted former rock star ventures into the darkest corners of Warsaw and the human psyche to find his child. Arkadiusz Jakubik stars as Marcin Kania in this cinematic adaptation of Jakub Żulczyk’s renowned novel. Is he prepared to confront his past and unravel the mystery of his son's disappearance? Also co-starring Jan Hrynkiewicz. This looks like an intense series about crime and corruption in Warsaw, and how one this one alcoholic former rocker breaks down dealing with this terrible situation.
