Questlove’s Doc ‘Sly Lives! (aka the Burden of Black Genius)’ Full Trailer

"They sounded like nothing else sounds." Hulu has unveiled their main official trailer for the documentary called Sly Lives! (aka the Burden of Black Genius), which is premiering at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. It's one of the first big opening night films screening tomorrow (Thursday) on the very first day of Sundance 2025. Questlove's latest music history doc is an examination of the life and legacy of Sly & The Family Stone — the groundbreaking band led by the charismatic and enigmatic Sly Stone — captures the band's rise, reign, and subsequent fadeout while also shedding light on the unseen burden that comes with success for Black artists in America. Drawing from his own personal experience and relationships, Questlove tells an empathetic human story about the cost of genius, reframing the way we all engage with pop culture. Sundance says the film is "a revelatory journey born from a deep understanding of the band’s far-reaching influence and impact" featuring an "incredible soundtrack, exuberant archival footage, thought-provoking discussions with family, band members, scholars, and musicians." "She's just a kid who doesn't have anyone." Roadside Attractions has debuted the official trailer for an indie film called Bob Trevino Likes It, made by indie filmmaker Tracie Laymon. This first premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival last year, and it also played at Seattle, Melbourne, Newport Beach, Nashville, Mill Valley, and Denver Film Festivals, and many others. Bob Trevino Likes It is inspired by the true friendship that writer-director Tracie Laymon found with a stranger when looking for her father online. Often playing the role of caretaker to people like her father who should be caring for her, Lily Trevino longs for a familial connection, having been abandoned by her mother as a child, then suddenly by her father in her 20s. When she accidentally befriends a stranger online who also shares the same name as her own self-centered father, encouragement and support from this new Bob Trevino could change her life. Starring Barbie Ferreira, John Leguizamo, French Stewart, Lauren "Lolo" Spencer, & Rachel Bay Jones. Fest Trailer for Dag Johan Haugerud’s ‘Dreams’ Film in His Sex Trilogy

"Could this be something you'd publish?" Screen Daily has unveiled the first official trailer for Dreams, the third film in the trilogy of Sex, Love, Dreams films from Norwegian filmmaker Dag Johan Haugerud. Not to be confused with Akira Kurosawa's iconic classic Dreams, or the other 2025 film also titled Dreams directed by Mexican filmmaker Michel Franco. Dag Johan Haugerud's other film Sex premiered at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival last year, and Love premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, so Dreams is up next to debut at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival. This intimate, sapphic story stars Ella Øverbye as the Norwegian young woman Johanne who documents her intense crush on her French teacher, named Johanna, falling in love for the first time. Her mother & grandmother end up reading these intimate writings. They're both worried by the contents at first but are taken by the powerful writing & story, hoping to get it published. Johanne navigates romantic ideals vs reality, exploring emotions of self-discovery, love, sexuality. Also stars Selome Emnetu, Ane Dahl Torp, and Anne Marit Jacobsen. First Trailer for Swiss Hospital Film ‘Late Shift’ Starring Leonie Benesch

"Be careful!" Tobis has revealed an official trailer for a Swiss drama titled Late Shift in English, the latest from acclaimed Swiss filmmaker Petra Volpe. The original German title is Heldin, which actually translates to Heroine (a female hero), but they're not using this title for its international release. Late Shift will be premiering at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival in February before opening in German theaters late that month. German actress Leonie Benesch (seen in The Teacher's Lounge, September 5) stars as Floria, a dedicated nurse, tirelessly working in an understaffed surgical hospital ward. On this day her shift becomes a tense and urgent race against the clock. According to the WHO, the worldwide shortage of nursing staff is a global health risk. The film is both a respectful tribute to all care workers and a gripping plea for more humanity and social commitment. Last but not least, it shows how essential good care in the event of illness is for us all.
