Netflix has unveiled the main official trailer Hit Man, the hugely loved new "hitman" comedy from Texas filmmaker Richard Linklater. This first premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival last year, with a rapturous premiere where audiences went nuts for (read my full review). It also went on to play at TIFF, NYFF, London and Sundance. From the Oscar-nominated writer/director Richard Linklater, starring the great Glen Powell alongside Adria Arjona, comes Hit Man. Inspired by an unbelievable true story, a "hit man" meets his match with a client who steals his heart and ignites a powder keg of deception, delight, and mixed-up identities. Co-written by Linklater & Powell and inspired by a true story, it's a cleverly existential comedy about identity. Hit Man arrives on Netflix in June, hopefully with a proper theatrical debut first before it's streaming. The cast includes Austin Amelio, Retta, Sanjay Rao, and Evan Holtzman. "We got these powers for a reason... Let's use them!" Paramount Pictures has revealed an official trailer for the next Transformers movie, this one an all-CGI animated creation called Transformers One. Anyone up for an origin story after all the live-action movies? Transformers One is based on the Transformers toyline by Hasbro and is the 8th installment in the Transformers movies series. This "prequel" is set on the planet Cybertron and will center on the relationship between the bots Optimus Prime and Megatron, and how they became sworn enemies. Directed by Josh Cooley (from Pixar's Toy Story 4), the ensemble voice cast includes Chris Hemsworth as Optimus Prime, Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron, Scarlett Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion, plus Steve Buscemi. This is some wacky, flashy, amusing footage but it really seems like this is made for kids and not really the adults that enjoyed the previous Transformers movies. Still worth a look. "I've been running away from her like a coward." The Match Factory has revealed a first look trailer for a Portuguese film set in Asia premiering at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival next month. This new film is called Grand Tour, and it's the latest feature by Portuguese director Miguel Gomes, best known for his films Tabu (2012), The Tsugua Diaries (2021), and his Arabian Nights trilogy (2015). Grand Tour was already announced as part of the prestigious Competition at Cannes 2024 this year, which is a big deal for a film like this. Edward, civil servant, flees fiancee Molly on their wedding day in Rangoon, Burma, in 1917. His travels replace panic with melancholy. Molly, set on marriage and amused by his escape, trails him across Asia. The film stars Gonçalo Waddington & Crista Alfaiate. Variety says it features a mix of "narrative sequences shot in a studio [which are] intercut with footage of contemporary Asia." It is a tragicomedy though it is also "melancholic and courageous."
