Watch: ‘Alberto and The Beast’ – An Engrossing Sasquatch Short Film
The story of a man and a beast. This entrancing short film is titled Alberto and The Beast and it played at last year's Toronto Film Festival. After screening at festivals it's now online to enjoy - all 17 minutes of it. While working for a children's show, a wildlife researcher encounters Bigfoot in the woods. Alberto and The Beast is written and directed by John Paul Lopez-Ali, starring Bruno Kanter as Alberto. (He looks a lot like Burn Gorman.) This is also the perfect companion piece to the other Bigfoot movie arriving in theaters later this month - Sasquatch Sunset from the Zellner Brothers (big fan of this film, highly recommend it). Both Sunset and Alberto approach sasquatches with the same sensibilities - they're misunderstood creatures and humans shouldn't just see them as a rare phenomenon to capture on camera. I do wish there was a bit more going on with Alberto and his new friend in this short, but it's a good one anyway. Click on play below.

Official Trailer for ‘The Contestant’ Doc About a Game Show in Japan
"For months, my life has just been a struggle between sanity and madness." Hulu has revealed an official trailer for a documentary film titled The Contestant, a fascinating, unbelievable true story about a game show contestant in Japan in the 1990s known as "Nasubi". It's a bizarre cross between The Truman Show and Oldboy (and predates both of these films), but it actually really happened. This true story of a Japanese reality TV star left naked in a room for more than a year, tasked with filling out magazine sweepstakes to earn food & clothing, prompts innumerable questions about our culture of oversharing. Before the reality TV craze, there was this ominous harbinger in Japan of what was to come in oversharing-obsessed culture. The Contestant traces the experience of aspiring comedian Tomoaki Hamatsu, nicknamed Nasubi, who unwittingly became an extreme case study. The doc film brings a revelatory depth of insight by interviewing Nasubi and others, exploring further twists in Nasubi's life after "Denpa Shonen" to deliver one of the most WTF stories of the year. Wow. A must watch. ...

Heavily impacted by his fellow veteran's suicides, George Eshleman, an Army Veteran, decides to raise awareness for military member suicides by hiking the entire nearly 2,200-mile Appalachian Trail from Maine to Georgia. On the trek, he carries 363 name tapes from the uniforms of military who committed suicide, given to him by their families. Along the way he is given the trail name of "The Keeper" (of the names) and finds support and comfort from fellow hikers, civilians, and military Veterans alike, in the "Hiker Universe." This adventurous subculture forms a network of hikers that revel in their common purpose and an unspoken meaning of life that drives them down the trail and over the next peak. Starring director Angus Benfield as George, with Haley Babula, Michael Maclane, Nicolas Asad, Andrew Ferguson, Kameron Whitaker, & Lance Bonza. This looks a bit rough around the edges, but ...
