Netflix has launched the full trailer for the action thriller fantasy movie Damsel, from Spanish filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (best known for Intacto, 28 Weeks Later, and Intruders years ago). Ready for a streaming release in March. A young woman agrees to marry a handsome prince -- only to discover it was all a trap. She is thrown into a cave with a fire-breathing dragon and must rely solely on her wits and will to survive. "She's a 'damsel' who doesn’t need to be saved. She saves herself in many ways. It subverts what you expect: You're expecting the prince to turn around and save her, and... no. Don't wait for the prince." Why, of course not! Millie Bobby Brown stars as Elodie in this story. The cast also includes Robin Wright, Angela Bassett, Nick Robinson, Brooke Carter, Ray Winstone, and Shohreh Aghdashloo. Seems like this should be a pretty good time! It's not entirely set in the cave with this dragon, clearly a lot more going down ...

"To the Oscars, man!" The 2024 Academy Awards are coming up in one month from now, the end of the 2023 awards season. The Academy hosted their annual Oscar Luncheon featuring all the nominees together for a photo and plenty of chit chat. To begin the countdown, The Academy and ABC have also released a fun promo video featuring host Jimmy Kimmel and some special guests. It's an impressive riff on Barbie, as Jimmy "Ken" Kimmel meets up with Weird Barbie, played by Kate McKinnon reprising her role, and goes off on a voyage to get safely to "OscarsLand". Along the way they recap the Best Picture noms – American Fiction, Anatomy of a Fall, Barbie, The Holdovers, Killers of the Flower Moon, Maestro, Oppenheimer, Past Lives, Poor Things, The Zone of Interest – and they also encounter Bella Baxter (+ Godwin), America Ferrera, and Ryan Gosling in a Kenough sweater. This has to be one of the best Oscar promo videos in years, they actually get in some solid jokes and it's not too cheesy or dumb. Nice work! ...

"Do you wish death upon her?" "Not tomorrow..." Vertical has revealed the official trailer for an indie film titled American Dreamer, now set for release in March this year. This film originally premiered at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival a few years ago, and has been stuck in release limbo ever since. Which is not a good sign. "What do we need to be happy? What do we want? And ultimately - how far are we willing to go, to get it?" Economics professor Phillip Loder poses these questions to his grad students as he ponders these thoughts. Phil is a twice-divorced, frustrated, underpaid professor, as well as an aspiring novelist, clamoring for bigger, better things in his life. He finds a hard-to-believe good deal on a masnion estate and jumps at the offer, hoping he'll strike it rich – only to quickly realize it really is too good to be true. Peter Dinklage stars as Phil with Shirley MacLaine, Kim Quinn, Danny Pudi, Michelle Mylett, plus Danny Glover and Matt Dillon. This looks like a kooky comedy of errors ...
