David Besser dropped us an email after reading about the Woodill Wildfire in December\u2019s Lost & Found<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have the pleasure of owning Woody Woodill\u2019s personal car, #WW010, which he owned from 1954 to 1965. He took it to many shows and was able to get it into some movies. It was in the 1956 movie Written on the Wind<\/em> in which actress Dorothy Malone\u2019s character, Marylee Hadley, drove the car. Malone went on to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance. The car was also a part of the \u2018Plastics-World’s Fair and Trade Exposition\u2019 in Los Angeles where it won the motor revue excellence award in 1955. All the Wildfires featured different grilles, headlamps, bumpers, windshields, etc. My car has a flathead Lincoln engine with Fenton aluminum heads and intake, and Fenton headers. After the show circuit and movie appearances were over, Woody parked the car until 1965 when he sold it. Currently, the car shows 10,000 miles on the odometer,\u201d David says. <\/p>\n

We also heard from Steve Cowdin of Larkspur, Colorado, who happens to own a different Woodill Wildfire movie car, the long lost \u201cIdaho Special\u201d from the 1954 movie Johnny Dark<\/em>. It\u2019s currently undergoing a full restoration to bring it back to its movie car configuration. The body was recently mounted onto a specially designed rotisserie as part of its restoration process. <\/p>\n

\u201cThis car has been lost for many decades due to the fact that the factory did a restyle on the car to experiment with a Corvette wraparound windshield,\u201d Steve says.<\/p>\n

After the car came into Steve\u2019s possession, it took a while to verify that it was the Idaho Special. With the help of some experts and many movie photos, including the car on its side, the positive ID was confirmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt matches down to the many crummy welds, phony dual exhaust hangers, filled-in windshield mounting holes from filming, and so forth,\u201d Steve adds. <\/p>\n

We\u2019re eager to see more restoration photos and the car when it\u2019s finished. If only a young Tony Curtis could take the wheel.<\/p>\n
