{"id":103226,"date":"2024-03-11T05:09:21","date_gmt":"2024-03-11T05:09:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usustatesman.com\/?p=22128764"},"modified":"2024-03-11T05:09:21","modified_gmt":"2024-03-11T05:09:21","slug":"aggies-fall-to-the-broncos-85-49-ard-coaches-final-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gamefootballmobileanimeiphone.com\/index.php\/2024\/03\/11\/aggies-fall-to-the-broncos-85-49-ard-coaches-final-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Aggies fall to the Broncos, 85-49, Ard coaches final game."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LAS VEGAS \u2013 Kayla Ard coached her final game for the Utah State University women\u2019s basketball team after a loss to Boise State, 85-49.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The game took place Sunday night in the Thomas and Mack Center during the first round of the 2024 Mountain West Women\u2019s Basketball Championship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI just coached my last game at Utah State,\u201d Ard said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The news comes after the Aggie\u2019s season ended with a record of 5-25, ranking dead last in the Mountain West Conference. Ard said she was disappointed with the results.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe appreciate everything Kayla and her staff have contributed to Utah State,\u201d said Athletic Director Diana Sabau. \u201cHowever, it is in the best interest of the program to make a change.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"DRv5otJNqv\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/usustatesman.com\/usu-womens-basketball-in-the-mountain-west-tournament\/\">USU Women&#8217;s Basketball In The Mountain West Tournament<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" title=\"&#8220;USU Women&#8217;s Basketball In The Mountain West Tournament&#8221; &#8212; The Utah Statesman\" src=\"https:\/\/usustatesman.com\/usu-womens-basketball-in-the-mountain-west-tournament\/embed\/#?secret=B9E1qCwOoC%23?secret=DRv5otJNqv\" data-secret=\"DRv5otJNqv\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the second straight year that the Broncos and Aggies have met as the No. 6 and No. 11 seeds, respectively.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the beginning of the game, the Broncos won the tip-off and scored on their first possession.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Aggies ran a 2-3 defense, while the Broncos had a 3-2, which gave them trouble feeding Gracie Johnson.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gordy Presnell called a timeout at 4:42 left in the first half with a score of 34-14 in favor of the Broncos.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Broncos dominated the Aggies in rebounds, entering the second half at 38-18.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Broncos pulled away from the Aggies with two minutes left in the third quarter with a score of 56-24.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cheyenne Stubbs got a three-point play off an and-one. Then, as the Broncos were bringing the ball down, she got a steal and drew another shooting foul. She made both to make five points in two plays. On the next Aggie possession after that, she made a three-pointer to make a total of eight points within a minute.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI came in here with a chip on my shoulder,\u201d Stubbs said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ard called a timeout and didn\u2019t join the team\u2019s huddle. Rather, she spoke with her staff.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ard chose to have a full-court press with a minute and a half left in the game.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Aggies lost to the Broncos 85-49.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Throughout the game, both teams\u2019 pep bands acted as the cheering section, taking turns taunting each opponent on the line.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Stubbs, who ended the game with 21 points, was crying during the press conference.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She currently has 461 career points, passing Jennifer Schlott (2012-13) and Ashlee Brown (2010-11) to move into 10th all-time at Utah State.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked about what she looked forward to for her senior season, Stubbs said, \u201cOff-season, getting better, stronger.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coach Ard coached for four seasons with the Aggies, going 24-90 in total and 10-62 in the Mountain West.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Athletics Department will begin searching immediately for USU\u2019s next head women\u2019s basketball coach.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTonight\u2019s game, and the entire season, didn\u2019t go the way we wanted it to go,\u201d Ard said. \u201cWe have some great young ladies here, and I appreciate everything they gave me.
