The American SUV manufacturer Jeep is reportedly considering the launch of a new SUV in India. According to Carwale<\/a>, the company is expected to launch a Mahindra Thar-rivalling off-road SUV for the country. It is being reported that this SUV will most likely be inspired by the Jeep Wrangler. At the moment, the company has not confirmed this upcoming SUV.<\/p>\n

Mahindra Thar Rivaling Jeep SUV<\/h2>\n

According to reports, this new SUV will be manufactured in India. Jeep is planning to globally distribute this SUV to all its right-hand drive (RHD) markets. The Indian facility is slated to serve as a hub for producing and exporting the SUV.<\/p>\n

It is being speculated that to grab a chunk of the increasingly popular Indian SUV market, the company intends to price this SUV competitively. The company is also planning to bank on its legendary name to compete with SUVs like the Thar, Jimny, and Gurkha.<\/p>\n

Design and Features<\/h2>\n

At the moment, the company has not revealed any design details or renders of this SUV. However, it is being reported that it will be based on a body-on-frame chassis. This chassis will be similar to that of the Thar, which has gained immense popularity due to its road presence and off-roading capabilities.<\/p>\n

The exact information about the powertrain options for this SUV is currently unknown. However, it is believed that the company is expected to offer both diesel and petrol engine options. Additionally, it could also be offered with a four-wheel-drive system and locking differentials.<\/p>\n

As mentioned above, the company is aiming to position this SUV as a premium product. However, at the same time, it is aiming to make it the most affordable in Jeep’s India portfolio.<\/p>\n

Reportedly, the starting price of this SUV could be around Rs 18 lakh, which can make it accessible to a larger customer base compared to the Compass. At the moment, the Jeep Compass starts at Rs 20.69 lakh in India.<\/p>\n

According to reports, the upcoming Jeep Compass EV will be underpinned by the Stellantis STLA M platform. This all-new architecture was unveiled by Stellantis back in July of the previous year.<\/p>\n

Additionally, this new platform will offer very efficient energy consumption at less than 14 kWh per 100 km. Charging capabilities are equally remarkable, with a 20-80 percent charge achieved in just 27 minutes, delivering a fast charging rate of 2.4 kWh per minute.<\/p>\n
