As you may know, our<br \/>\nregistration data are compiled from all 50 states and require time<br \/>\nfor aggregation and analysis to ensure accuracy before publishing,<br \/>\nhence the different reporting time from other industry sources.<\/p>\n<p >We&#39;re frequently asked about the market dynamics; top models,<br \/>\nretail volumes and share, electric and hybrid take rates, etc. As<br \/>\nsuch, we&#39;re happy to share the following insights from our 2023<br \/>\ndata analysis. Please note that each metric is addressed in two<br \/>\nseparate tables; the first one focuses on <strong>total<\/strong><br \/>\nnew light vehicle registrations and the second one focuses on<br \/>\n<strong>retail<\/strong> new light vehicle registrations in<br \/>\n2023.<\/p>\n<p >We&#39;ve also included a few topline observations from Tom Libby,<br \/>\nassociate director of industry analysis and loyalty from our<br \/>\nteam.<\/p>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ihsmarkit.com\/www\/images\/0324\/by-the-number-img-1_14032024154230.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"423\" height=\"249\" \/><\/p>\n<p ><strong>Observations:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul >\n<li>Based on total new light vehicle registrations, eight of the<br \/>\ntop ten in 2023 were also in the top ten a year ago; the models<br \/>\nthat made the list this year, but not in 2022, are Nissan Rogue and<br \/>\nJeep Grand Cherokee.<\/li>\n<li>Four of the top ten models are full-size pickups.<\/li>\n<li>It is unusual to see a luxury model rank in the top ten<br \/>\nindustry-wide, given that the entire luxury market accounts for<br \/>\n19.6% of the market but the Tesla Model Y ranked in the top ten<br \/>\nboth last year and this year based on total new registrations,<br \/>\nimproving from #9 in 2022 to #5 in 2023.<\/li>\n<li>Only one sedan, the Toyota Camry, ranked in the EV models accounted for 75% of all new EV<br \/>\nregistrations in 2023, even though there were 83 EV models on the<br \/>\nmarket.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ihsmarkit.com\/www\/images\/0324\/line-for-dividing-blog_14032024154230.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"49\" \/><\/p>\n<p ><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ihsmarkit.com\/www\/images\/0324\/2023sales4_140320241435706.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"454\" height=\"245\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p ><strong>Observations:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul >\n<li>The two high-volume Tesla models accounted for 57% of retail<br \/>\nnew EV registrations across the industry, but they only accounted<br \/>\nfor 52% of total new EV registrations.<\/li>\n<li>The two lists are similar; the only difference in models is<br \/>\nthat the Tesla Model S is on the retail list but not the total list<br \/>\nand the Kia EV6 only appears on the total list.<\/li>\n<li>At the retail level, all four Tesla models rank in the top<br \/>\n10.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ihsmarkit.com\/www\/images\/0324\/line-for-dividing-blog_14032024154230.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"49\" \/><\/p>\n<p ><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ihsmarkit.com\/www\/images\/0324\/2023sales5_140320241421957.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"487\" height=\"251\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p ><strong>Observations:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul >\n<li>The two Honda hybrids account for more than one of every five<br \/>\nhybrids registered in 2023.<\/li>\n<li>All ten of these models come from four brands, with two cars on<br \/>\nthe list.<\/li>\n<li>The top five models accounted for 42% of all hybrids registered<br \/>\nlast year, among 77 models on the market.<\/li>\n<li>Sienna&#39;s inclusion is noteworthy because the mid-size van<br \/>\ncategory has declined substantially and accounted for only 1.6% of<br \/>\nnew retail registrations in 2023.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"
