For 12 seasons, the beloved CBS sitcom gifted us with the hilarious antics and infinitely re-quotable lines of Sheldon Cooper, a theoretical physicist played to much acclaim by <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/tag\/Jim-Parsons\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jim Parsons<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>While fans can no longer enjoy Cooper\u2019s many <em>\u201cbazinga!\u201d <\/em>moments on the mothership series, they have been able to understand his origins on <em><a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/tag\/Young-Sheldon\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Young Sheldon<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>The spinoff prequel show \u2014 which follows a young Sheldon Cooper (played by Iain Armitage) long before he met Leonard, Penny and the rest of the gang \u2014 has run for seven seasons, and is set to air its series finale in May, 2024. <\/p>\n<p>Given that <em>Young Sheldon <\/em>is somewhat of an origin story, it\u2019s useful to take a look at exactly where the show is set, and which location gave rise to one of television\u2019s most annoyingly brilliant sitcom characters.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-where-does-young-sheldon-take-place\">Where does <em>Young Sheldon<\/em> take place?<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Young Sheldon Season 7 Super Bowl Trailer (HD) Final Season\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KPmFaL3gOrI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><em>Young Sheldon <\/em>makes clear from the very first episode where and when it takes place. The details of the setting come courtesy of a voiceover narration from Parsons, who reveals that the events of <em>Young Sheldon <\/em>take place in East Texas from the late-1980s to the early-1990s. The seventh and final season of <em>Young Sheldon <\/em>will take place in 1993 and 1994.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s multiple references to pop cultural artefacts that existed during that time, from <em>Watchmen <\/em>to <em>Dungeons and Dragons <\/em>and <em>Star Trek<\/em>; all of which would remain beloved by Sheldon well into his <em>Big Bang Theory <\/em>tenor.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Young-Sheldon.jpg\" alt=\"Raegan Revord, Annie Potts, Iain Armitage, Montana Jordan, Lance Barber, and Zoe Perry as Missy, Connie, Sheldon, Georgie, George Cooper Sr, and Mary in 'Young Sheldon'\" class=\"wp-image-1661974\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Young-Sheldon.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Young-Sheldon.jpg?resize=564,317 564w, https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Young-Sheldon.jpg?resize=640,360 640w, https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Young-Sheldon.jpg?resize=150,84 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Image via CBS<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As for the exact location of <em>Young Sheldon<\/em>, it\u2019s revealed throughout the show that the Cooper family live in the fictional town of Medford. Like <em>The Simpsons\u2019 <\/em>Springfield, you can\u2019t point to Medford on a map (since it doesn\u2019t exist), but a brief map appearing in the premiere episode shows that the fictional area is close to the very real town of Sabine County, and near the Trinity River.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>For their part, fans have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/YoungSheldon\/comments\/13ho81a\/i_believe_i_have_figured_out_what_town_medford_is\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">offered a few suggestions<\/a> as to what Medford reminds them of, naming cities like Lumberton, Silsbee, Katy, Allen, and Arlington. For what it\u2019s worth, there is an actual town named Sheldon located just Northeast of Houston, but our guess is that showrunners thought that location might be a little too on the nose.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Sheldon of <em>The Big Bang Theory <\/em>made countless references to his Texan upbringing throughout the show, and is even seen returning home in three episodes. Parsons himself is from the state, and was born in Houston.
