He would later be diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, making a return to performing near impossible.<\/p>\n<p>He is, however, surrounded by loved ones, according to social media postings by family. There\u2019s everything from \u201cDie Hard\u201d to \u201cRugrats\u201d to \u201cBeavis and Butt-head\u201d to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/hudson-hawk-bruce-willis-second-look\/\">Hudson Hawk<\/a>\u201d to that talking baby movie with John Travolta and Kirstie Alley.<\/p>\n<p>If the star didn\u2019t do it all, he came pretty close.<\/p>\n<p>Many Willis flicks are still in heavy rotation, but a handful have nearly been lost to time. These titles are unique and take big swings in the way a lot of Willis\u2019 best work did.<\/p>\n<p>We won\u2019t get any new Willis work in the future. That\u2019s why these three films deserve proper releases before they disappear altogether.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Breakfast of Champions&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>This one is bonkers. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/best-movies-1999-matrix-sixth-sense\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">year 1999<\/a> gave the world classics such as \u201cFight Club\u201d and \u201cOffice Space,\u201d and it also brought us \u201cBreakfast of Champions,\u201d an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.com\/books\/184327\/breakfast-of-champions-by-kurt-vonnegut\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut\u2019s 1973 novel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Many likely don\u2019t even know this movie exists, let alone what year it came out. After a festival screening and a small release in theaters, \u201cBreakfast of Champions\u201d pulled a Houdini. No one cared at the time. The reviews were terrible.<\/p>\n<p>The cast is headed by Willis as car salesman Dwayne Hoover. Despite his success in small-town Idaho, Hoover is on the brink of collapse and everyone around seems to be as well.<\/p>\n<p>The cast here is wild. Nick Nolte appears as a fellow car salesman with his own set of issues, and actors like Owen Wilson, Michael Clarke Duncan and Will Patton pop up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/16-blocks-bruce-willis-aphasia\/\"><strong>RELATED: THE BRUCE WILLIS FILM HIS FANS OVERLOOKED<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBreakfast of Champions\u201d is tough to describe beyond saying it\u2019s a shoot-for-the-moon kind of movie. They may have ended up off-target in some other dimension, but you&#8217;ve got to respect the Babe Ruth finger to the sky.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019d probably have an easier time tracking down a copy of the David Ayer \u201cSuicide Squad\u201d cut than this. Promotional VHS copies (meant to entice rental stores into ordering more tapes) float around here and there, and that\u2019s about it.<\/p>\n<p>If \u201cBreakfast of Champions\u201d had moved to DVD and then streaming, it likely would have a cult following today because of how insane and indecipherable it is. If you let yourself go on this particular roller coaster though, you\u2019ll have fun because a zany Bruce Willis will guide you through the chaos.<\/p>\n<p>A zany Bruce Willis was always the best Bruce.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;Return of Bruno&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>If you didn\u2019t already know, Willis liked to hit a few notes on occasion. He released two albums, 1987\u2019s \u201cReturn of Bruno\u201d and 1989\u2019s \u201cIf It Don\u2019t Kill You, It Just Makes You Stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There was also a \u201cclassics\u201d album released in 1999.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s the kind of bluesy, good-time music you\u2019d expect from the New Jersey performer. He had a sizable hit with the single, \u201cRespect Yourself\u201d and also did some impressive covers of tunes like \u201cSave the Last Dance for Me\u201d and \u201cUnder the Boardwalk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReturn of Bruno\u201d was a film companion to the \u201cReturn of Bruno\u201d album in 1987. Airing on HBO, it contained cameos from a Rolodex of famous musicians, including Phil Collins, Jon Bon Jovi, Elton John and more.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe Return of Bruno\u201d, the debut album by actor Bruce Willis was released today in 1987. It\u2019s a pretty raw look at exactly the kind of material that appealed to the actor. As with \u201cHudson Hawk,\u201d Willis was behind the inception of this special.<\/p>\n<p>You can find \u201cReturn of Bruno\u201d streaming in lo-fi on YouTube, but it deserves a proper release if for nothing else than the final concert stretch where Willis shines. And he doesn\u2019t even punch or shoot anybody along the way.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8216;True West&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cWhen I started out as an actor in New York City, I remember being completely blown away by Sam Shepard\u2019s writing,\u201d Bruce Willis says in a home video introduction to \u201cTrue West.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This one is not a movie but a filmed stage adaptation of the late Shepard\u2019s play about two brothers at each other\u2019s throats for days in a series of escalating situations.<\/p>\n<p>In 2002, Willis released an adaptation of \u201cTrue West,\u201d filmed in Idaho, with him playing older criminal brother Lee. Chad Smith plays younger brother Austin. Willis said he\u2019d often use scenes from Shepard\u2019s plays for auditions, and he eventually aged into the role of the troubled Lee.<\/p>\n<p>This one disappeared. You can\u2019t find much more than occasional promotional DVDs released after the stage adaptation aired on Showtime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrue West\u201d is classic Shepard, equal parts comedic and horrific. All of it is centered in an Americana so few writers can capture without some tinge of fraudulence.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/misery-bruce-willis-delivers-broadway-bow\/\"><strong>RELATED: WILLIS DELIVERS IN BROADWAY BOW&nbsp;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This specific adaptation is exactly the kind of venture that set Willis apart from the pantheon of \u201880s and \u201890s action stars he was constantly aligned within the media. When Willis was riding the highs of his career, he\u2019d choose to create a zany comedy like \u201cHudson Hawk,\u201d or gamble on a newbie filmmaker like M. Night Shyamalan with \u201cThe Sixth Sense,\u201d or just take to the stage and give life to words that once inspired him.<\/p>\n<p>On the \u201cTrue West\u201d DVD, Willis describes performing the play as just a \u201cfun opportunity to work with my friends.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Willis would take to the stage again in an adaptation of Stephen King\u2019s \u201cMisery\u201d and in both productions, the \u201cDie Hard\u201d star shows not just how committed of an actor he was, but how easily he could move from comedy to drama to horror to physical scenes.<\/p>\n<p>He found a truth in a character (as he does with Lee) that eases the wild jumps required for material \u201cTrue West.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shepard is gone and a Willis adaptation of one of his plays should not be hidden away.<\/p>\n<p>Both artists deserve for the work to be seen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zachary Leeman is a reporter who has been published on websites such as Breitbart, LifeZette, and Mediaite.
