His HBO showcase allows him to rally the Left against GOP figures, particularly President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Yet he&#8217;s one of the most powerful voices, Left or Right, against the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/bill-maher-joe-rogan-woke-kkk\/\">woke mind virus.<\/a>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lately, he&#8217;s equally strong against his party&#8217;s push to crush free speech.<\/p>\n<p>When even a liberal Supreme Court Justice can&#8217;t acknowledge why we need the First Amendment, that matters.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ggreenwald?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GGreenwald<\/a> rips apart Ketanji Brown Jackson&#39;s concern that the First Amendment could, in fact, limit government power:<\/p>\n<p>&quot;She believes&#8230; the free speech guarantee is an impediment to the government being able to to do things it needs to do&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I appreciate Justice Brown Jackson\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eEDopbkeDz\">https:\/\/t.co\/eEDopbkeDz<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/T5aIgOvDJE\">pic.twitter.com\/T5aIgOvDJE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; System Update (@SystemUpdate_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SystemUpdate_\/status\/1770104700785905868?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 19, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Over the weekend, Maher went to bat for free expression once again on &#8220;Real Time with Bill Maher.&#8221; And he dueled a prototypical journalist in doing so.<\/p>\n<p>Game. Set. Match. Maher.<\/p>\n<p>Maher clashed with &#8220;journalist&#8221; Kara Swisher, who once<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/john-fetterman-nbc-nightly-news-interview-stroke-treatment-reaction\/\"  rel=\"noopener\"> attacked a fellow reporter<\/a> for sharing the truth about Sen. John Fetterman&#8217;s cognitive state post-stroke.<\/p>\n<p>Swisher won&#8217;t say it aloud, but it appears she craves government censorship if it aligns with her worldview. That explains her lack of outrage over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/video\/series\/opinion-review-and-outlook\/wsj-opinion-the-biden-big-tech-censorship\/DB413B10-08A1-4974-9BDD-B03ADFF582D8\"  rel=\"noopener\">Biden administration&#8217;s censorious ways<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And she&#8217;s not alone in the media.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Notorious propaganda outlet smears free speech platform <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3ySm8Kr58y\">https:\/\/t.co\/3ySm8Kr58y<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Jim Hanson (@JimHansonDC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JimHansonDC\/status\/1772264434032849275?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 25, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Maher started by saying what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/bill-maher-rips-govt-censoring-dissenting-opinions-covid-19-pandemic-right-ones\"  rel=\"noopener\">we&#8217;ve all realized<\/a> regarding COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8220;As the years roll by now, we see that the dissenting opinions on a lot of these things were quite the right ones.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Heck, just the fact that Maher mentioned the current <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cato.org\/blog\/summary-murthy-v-missouri-oral-arguments#:~:text=The%20Supreme%20Court%20heard%20oral,media%20platforms%20and%20their%20users.\"  rel=\"noopener\">Supreme Court case Murthy V. Missouri<\/a> dealing with free speech is vital to our free speech debate.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s little chance Colbert, Kimmel, Oliver or Meyers will do the same. If they did, they&#8217;d likely go to bat against free speech. They do as the government says, by and large.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/bill-maher-swisher-censorship\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-youtube-lyte\/lyteCache.php?origThumbUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FsSkFyNVtNh8%2Fhqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"YouTube Video\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Swisher defended the media and government. She said it was a confusing time, adding &#8220;we&#8217;re not going to know perfectly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Maher had the <em>perfect<\/em> answer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8220;OK, but we should have been able to argue about whether it came from a lab, which we weren\u2019t. Things like that &#8230; Natural immunity \u2014 whether it was better to go to the beach and get sun and fresh air, as I would have said, as opposed to sitting home and day-drinking and putting on weight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized the latter point, one of the most shocking deceptions tied to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8220;They never mentioned that obesity was the biggest factor&#8230;They have a lot to answer for.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Quick, how many times did Dr. Anthony Fauci push losing weight as part of his pandemic rhetoric? That&#8217;s rhetorical.<\/p>\n<p>Swisher tried to respond to Maher saying the expects had &#8220;a lot to answer for,&#8221; but he quickly cut her off.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8220;They do, but you\u2019re in the middle of a plague and a debate that people don\u2019t know, and so you\u2019re going to\u2026 &#8220;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8220;Yes, so you should be able to debate it \u2014 this is medicine,&#8221; he countered.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s also journalism.<\/p>\n<p>Maher, a comic by trade, instinctively knows journalists should have been defending free speech during the pandemic. They also should be holding government officials accountable for stifling debate.<\/p>\n<p>They aren&#8217;t.
