Gal Gadot<\/strong> incredibly played the role of Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman in the DC universe, first appearing in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice<\/em>, and telling her full story in Wonder Woman<\/em> the following year. We have since seen her in the role in Justice League<\/em>, Shazam! Fury of the Gods<\/em>, and The Flash<\/em>, as well as her own sequel, and fans have hoped to see her continue her reign as the Princess of the Amazons. But after the dismal response to her DC sequel, Wonder Woman 1984<\/em>, and DC announcing last year that the third film was no longer moving forward, it seems like her time as Wonder Woman may have come to an end. <\/p>\n

This is a bummer, not only to the fans who\u2019ve enjoyed her portrayal, but also to actress Lynda Carter<\/strong>, who played Wonder Woman on the TV series from 1975 to 1979. Carter delighted comic book fans when she popped up at the end of Patty Jenkins\u2019 Wonder Woman 1984<\/em> as Asteria, a legendary Amazonian warrior previously thought to be dead. The tease led many to believe a third Wonder Woman<\/em> movie would unite Carter and Gadot on the big screen.<\/p>\n

In a new interview with Yahoo Entertainment<\/a>, Carter verified that she would\u2019ve been back as Asteria had Jenkins and Gadot\u2019s Wonder Woman 3<\/em> taken flight at Warner Bros. She described Jenkins\u2019 plans for the sequel as \u201creally interesting, wonderful and about something important. Not just your typical thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carter said about the studio:<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think they want to do it unless there\u2019s enough pressure from fans. I just don\u2019t think they have the mind to do it. And I don\u2019t understand that, because it seems to me that Wonder Woman is different from other characters. She\u2019s not just a superhero. Her whole thing is about peaceful solutions. She\u2019s not aggressive to be aggressive. It\u2019s a different story. It\u2019s about inner strength, outer strength. I don\u2019t know why they tabled it, because it\u2019s a great franchise.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Carter added:<\/p>\n

\u201cI have to give a lot of credit to Patty and Gal because the interest in my show had peaked when they came on the scene. [Their vision] was intentional \u2014 and how I played the character was intentional. To be good, kind, strong and do everything for the right reasons. Even when she was angry, she was angry at the right people.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The actress shared that she even has an ongoing group chat with Jenkins and Gadot. \u201cWe all embraced each other and we\u2019re very good friends,\u201d she added. \u201cWe took the steam right out. \u2018No, we love each other.\u2019 \u2018Oh, darn.\u2019 Sharing that legacy with someone is wonderful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jenkins, who directed the first two films, said on the Talking Pictures podcast<\/a> last month that her experience with Wonder Woman is over \u201cfor the time being, easily forever.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThey aren\u2019t interested in doing any \u2018Wonder Woman\u2019 for the time being,\u201d Jenkins said. \u201cIt\u2019s not an easy task, with what\u2019s going on with DC. James Gunn and Peter Safran have to follow their own heart into their own plans. I don\u2019t know what they are planning on doing or why, so I have sympathy for what a big job it is and they have to follow their heart and do what they\u2019ve got planned.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gunn and Safran\u2019s new DC universe will launch with superheroes such as Batman and Supergirl, but Wonder Woman is not yet announced for the new franchise.<\/p>\n\n
