\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cAnd I carry it with me like my daddy did.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI Got a Name\u201d \u2013 Jim Croce<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I remember when Michael Douglas won his Oscar for \u201cWall Street\u201d he thanked his dad for allowing him to \u201cstep out of a shadow.\u201d\u00a0 In the history of singer\/songwriters, very few people left a shadow as large as that of Jim Croce.\u00a0 In a tragically shortened career that lasted less than two years, Croce wrote and performed some of the most popular songs of the 20th<\/sup> Century.\u00a0 His son, A.J., following in his father\u2019s footsteps, has become an influential singer\/songwriter of this century.\u00a0 This past Saturday night, the two centuries converged on the Kauffman Center as, to paraphrase the name of the tour, Croce played Croce.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The show opened with a film clip of Jim Croce talking about his young son, Adrian James, asking his wife, Ingrid, to \u201cbring him out.\u201d\u00a0 With that introduction, A.J. took the stage and, for the next two and a half hours, kept the audience grooving with a combination of songs by himself, his father and some of his musical heroes.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Musically, the show was flawless.\u00a0 Mr. Croce is an accomplished musician and, along with his backup band made up of some amazing session players, he rocked the house.\u00a0 But even better then the music were the stories Mr. Croce shared with the audience.\u00a0 Stores about his father.\u00a0 Stories about his own musical journey.\u00a0 A highlight was when he opened the show up to the audience, encouraging them to shout out titles of songs they wanted to hear, Mr. Croce and the band obliging them.\u00a0 The songs were presented with a variety of videos, featuring everything from family films of his father to an animated cartoon of \u201cBad, Bad, Leroy Brown,\u201d which I can remember watching as a kid on \u201cThe Sonny and Cher Show.\u201d<\/p>\n <\/p>\n While I could not grab a set list, both Croce\u2019s catalogues were well represented.\u00a0 A great story about Rod Stewart evolved into a kick-ass version of \u201cStay with Me.\u201d\u00a0 Another musical highlight was \u201cName of the Game,\u201d a song Jim Croce was working on before he passed that A.J. finished.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n All in all, it was an amazing night filled with amazing
