With 2024 continuing to bring new highlights and opportunities for Los Angeles rockers The Effect, the trio comprised of Trev Lukather (son of Toto\u2019s Steve Lukather) on guitars, Nic Collins (son of Phil Collins) on drums, and newcomer Emmett Stang on vocals have partnered with musical legend Steve Perry of Journey to record a cover of Journey\u2019s \u201cIt Could Have Been You.\u201d The song comes from Journey\u2019s 1986 album Raised On Radio. The idea to work together came from a conversation between Trev and Steve and the rest of the band jumped at the chance to work with Perry. The song was produced by Trev Lukather and the music video marks the return of director Madison Leigh Lukather – who has directed all of the band\u2019s videos \u2013 and features styling by The Sisters Closet. A message from Steve Perry about \u201cIt Could Have Been You:\u201d<\/p>\n

In 1986, the Journey \u201cRaised on Radio\u201d record was released and in it was a song I’ve always felt was a diamond in the ruff.<\/em><\/p>\n

I’ve known Trev Lukather since he was 9 years old, and he is a very gifted musician.<\/em><\/p>\n

One day we were talking about his new band, \u201cThe Effect\u201d \u2026 He surprisingly mentioned \u201cIt Could Have Been You\u201d is one of his favorite tracks from that record, I told him I felt the same. I then said, why don\u2019t you record it? He asked if I would sing on it if they did, I said… \u201cOf course, my most precious!\u201d<\/em>
\nI must say, singing on their powerful track brought out a vocal experience from years ago!<\/em><\/p>\n

So now… Releasing on May 7th on all socials and streaming is a powerful reimagined version of<\/em>

After the success of their first-ever live show last October and the response to their debut song \u201cUnwanted<\/a>,\u201dthe follow up \u201cSomething Wrong<\/a>\u201d and most recently \u201cToxic Envy<\/a>,\u201d The Effect have done a lot to develop their brand in less than 8 short months. The band has recently found mainstream attention with media partners like People Magazine, American Songwriter, Ultimate Classic Rock, Loudwire, and others all talking about the newcomers and their unique sound. The band even had the video for \u201cUnwanted\u201d reach #1 on the season finale of AXS TV\u2019s flagship music program on Thursday nights \u2013 The Power Hour. The Effect has done a few shows opening for Steel Panther and most-recently with Evan Stanley. They recently announced some dates opening for Billy Idol in the United States and will be taking their music to Europe this June where they will open for Toto on a bunch of dates along with festival and headline shows. The band was recently added to the prestigious Isle Of Wight Festival 2024 where they will be performing on the River Stage on June 21st. Recently, original keyboardist Steve Maggiora announced his departure from the band in an Instagram post. \u201cSad to announce my departure from @theeffectband. I\u2019m eternally grateful to @trevlukather @nic_collins, @emmettleestang, and the whole Effect family for having me, and though I will not be continuing as a member of the project, I\u2019ll always be a fan and support as I can. It was a heartbreaking decision to make, but unfortunately unavoidable. Please keep following, supporting and sharing The Effect – the music we created is some of my favorites that I\u2019ve ever worked on, they rock and are gonna take over and it\u2019s gonna be iconic! #theeffect\u201d<\/p>\n

About The Effect:<\/strong>
\nThe members of The Effect\u2014Trev Lukather [guitar, producer], Nic Collins [drums], and Emmett Stang [lead vocals]\u2014found each other at the perfect moment. Beyond serendipity, similar experiences cemented an instant bond between these musicians. Each member had logged miles on the road and countless hours in the studio on his own. Trev shined as a solo artist and producer and writer for the likes of Halestorm and Dorothy, Nic held down the drums on tour alongside Phil Collins, Genesis, and Mike + The Mechanics, and Emmett exploded with consistent viral success. Taking the connection one step further, Trev and Nic each grew up as the sons of rock icons\u2014Steve Lukather of Toto and Phil Collins, respectively. They forged a friendship in 2023 and decided to write and record together, welcoming Steve and Emmett to the fold shortly after. The musicians congregated at Trev\u2019s home studio in Los Angeles for \u201cband camp\u201d and immediately gelled, rallying around a signature sound infusing stadium rock energy and spirit with pop palatability.
