Residents of Tampa, Florida will soon be able to get around town in a bright yellow Tesla<\/a> Model Y taxi for just $2 per person.<\/p>\n

The Tampa Downtown Partnership has just announced its new Downtown Area Shared Hubs (DASH) service that will provide customers with an app-based taxi service<\/a> that can ferry them between 20 different hub locations throughout downtown Tampa. The service will run between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The DASH service will pair up to four passengers to share each hub-to-hub trip and the Model Ys will be helmed by “driver-ambassadors” who receive extensive safety and driver training before hitting the streets.<\/p>\n

It is unclear how many Model Ys<\/a> will make up the DASH fleet but we know the service is being funded by the Tampa Downtown Partnership and the fares that they collect. The service will start this month although a precise date has not yet been given.<\/p>\n

“We wanted to make sure this new way to get around Downtown is just as distinctive as the other transportation options it’ll be joining,” interim president of the Tampa Downtown Partnership Shaun Drinkard said. “When you think about the streetcar with its classic look, or a colorful e-bike or scooter, or the swords on the side of the Pirate Water Taxi, we know DASH’s bright yellow Teslas will be a great addition.”<\/p>\n

Drinkard added that the service will be beneficial for both residents and visitors to Tampa. Each Model Y is finished in a bright shade of yellow with black accents.<\/p>\n

“We have a lot of micro-transit options, whether it’s scooters or bikes,” Drinkard told ABC Action News<\/a><\/em>. “Making very pedestrian-friendly cycle tracks. But we also want to look at other options that can take us from those hub to hub areas as we look at major destinations downtown, whether they are city parks like we are in today or other major venues.”<\/p>\n
