The Porsche 911, Porsche’s iconic sports car is getting a major addition for the 2025 model year – a hybrid. That’s right, Porsche has unveiled a new T-Hybrid powertrain for the 911, which will be available on some of the versions of the updated 911.<\/p>\n

\"2025<\/figure>\n

Unlike hybrids like the Toyota Prius, the T-Hybrid powertrain is incapable of moving the 911 using only electricity. The T-Hybrid powertrain features a new 3.6-liter boxer engine, which alone generates 478 hp and 420 lb-ft. of torque. The engine is mated to an electric motor that’s placed inside the eight-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, giving the powertrain a combined 532 hp and 449 lb-ft.<\/p>\n

The electric motor gets its power from a 1.9-kilowatt hour battery and thanks to the new high-voltage system, the air conditioning is now powered by electricity, which eliminates the need for a belt drive. This makes the engine more compact. It also loses one turbo, but gets a new electric turbocharger, with an integrated electric motor between the compressor wheel and turbine wheel to eliminate any turbo lag. The new turbocharger has no waste gate and at high rpm, the turbocharger functions as a generator that can develop up to 11 kW using the exhaust gas stream.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the new hybrid powertrain, the 911 Carrera GTS can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.9 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than before. It also has a top speed of 194 mph.<\/p>\n

Moving past the T-Hybrid system, the 911 Carrera is powered by an updated 3.0-liter twin-turbo boxer engine, which borrows its intercooler from the 911 Turbo and its turbochargers from the previous 911 Carrera GTS. The standard 911 now has 388 horsepower, an increase of 9 hp and 331 lb-ft. The 911 Carrera can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds or 3.7 seconds with the optional Sport Chrono Package.<\/p>\n

Porsche has also updated the 911’s suspension, which for the first time gets standard rear axle steering. It now comes standard with a sport suspension with adaptive dampers, that includes a high reduction of 10 millimeters.<\/p>\n

On the outside, the 2025 911 gets a redesigned front fascia, which has been optimized for aerodynamics. All the lighting is now in the standard LED Matrix headlights, which allows for larger air intakes. On the 911 Carrera GTS models, the front fascia incorporates five visible, vertically aligned active air flaps as well as a further flap which closes off the bypass on each side and is not visible from the exterior. There are also adaptive front diffusors in the underbody that together with the cooling air flaps, they direct the air flow as needed.<\/p>\n

At the rear, the light band has been updated with \u201cPORSCHE\u201d-lettering and there’s a new decklid with five strakes per side. Lastly the rear license plate is now mounted higher.<\/p>\n

Inside the 911 gets a new fully digital instrument cluster, which is a 12.6-inch curved display with up to seven different display views. The center display is a 10.9-inch screen. Porsche says that Apple CarPlay is integrated more into the 911, since it can now display information on the instrument cluster. Video streaming is also an option and apps such as Spotify and Apple Music can be used as native apps in the PCM without connecting a smartphone.<\/p>\n
