{"id":129020,"date":"2024-06-06T01:12:29","date_gmt":"2024-06-06T00:12:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/?p=1704823"},"modified":"2024-06-06T01:12:29","modified_gmt":"2024-06-06T00:12:29","slug":"it-doesnt-surprise-me-the-acolyte-star-amandla-stenberg-responds-to-star-wars-fans-negative-critiques","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gamefootballmobileanimeiphone.com\/index.php\/2024\/06\/06\/it-doesnt-surprise-me-the-acolyte-star-amandla-stenberg-responds-to-star-wars-fans-negative-critiques\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018It doesn\u2019t surprise me\u2019: \u2018The Acolyte\u2019 star Amandla Stenberg responds to \u2018Star Wars\u2019 fans\u2019 negative critiques"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin-bottom: 15px;\" class=\"type:primaryImage\" src=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IMG_7480.jpeg\"><\/div>\n<p>One day after <em><a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/tag\/the-acolyte\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>The Acolyte<\/strong><\/a><\/em> premiered on Disney Plus \u2014 and after months of the show receiving negative attention from so-called <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/tag\/star-wars\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Star Wars<\/em><\/a> purists who hadn&#8217;t yet seen it \u2014 the series&#8217; star responded to <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/celebrities\/charlie-barnett-is-confused-on-his-star-wars-lore-and-fans-are-taking-it-as-a-bad-sign-for-the-acolyte\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the negative criticism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/tag\/amandla-stenberg\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amandla Stenberg<\/a><\/strong>, who both stars and co-stars in <em>The Acolyte<\/em>, as she plays the dual roles of twin sisters, was the most recent focus of the portion of the <em>Star Wars<\/em> fanbase who all but condemn the saga for now being &#8220;too woke.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I&#8217;m quite the huge <em>Star Wars<\/em> fan and have written countless articles through the years about the saga but I&#8217;m always surprised with the &#8220;This isn&#8217;t <em>Star Wars<\/em>&#8221; crowd who seem to be more committed to being negative than being receptive. Last night, I watched the two-episode premiere of the series and came away impressed with the excellent presentation of the story, and I&#8217;m genuinely excited to see the rest.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Acolyte | Official Trailer | Disney+\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6tzur6JrUEA?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;%23038;origin=https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Stenberg, who was outstanding in the premiere, appeared on <em>GMA3<\/em> to discuss it. She noted that her favorite thing about being in the show is that her 9-year old nephew loves it. He is her biggest fan and, if you watch the series, you&#8217;ll likely join him in his fandom.<\/p>\n<p>When discussing how actors in <em>Star Wars<\/em> are generally beloved, or at least used to be, Eva Pilgrim hesitated somewhat while asking, &#8220;Were you surprised by the people and all of the stuff that has come your direction?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The question seemed carefully worded, leaving it up to interpretation as to whether \u201call the stuff\u201d referred to the <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/tv\/why-do-star-wars-fans-already-hate-the-acolyte-so-much\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unnecessary negativity that Stenberg has personally received<\/a>, but in any case, she seemed unfazed. Stenberg even initially expressed her gratitude, saying &#8220;I&#8217;m still surprised that I am here in this moment talking about being a part of <em>Star Wars<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Amandla Stenberg talks &#039;Star Wars: The Acolyte&#039;\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/O1Gc4M00ayw?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;%23038;origin=https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>She then addressed the diverse fan reactions perfectly. &#8220;The fans and the response,&#8221; she answered, &#8220;it doesn&#8217;t surprise me because I feel like <em>Star Wars<\/em> is so ubiquitous.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Stenberg went on to add that she is aware of Star Wars\u2019 legacy and impact, and thus it&#8217;s somewhat to be expected. <\/p>\n<p>She also praised the online resource of <a href=\"https:\/\/starwars.fandom.com\/wiki\/Main_Page\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wookieepedia<\/a>, a <em>Star Wars<\/em>-only wiki, and explained that she signed on to <em>The Acolyte<\/em> three years ago and implied that she used Wookiepedia often during that time to learn more about the saga. <\/p>\n<p>Stenberg&#8217;s family celebrated the premiere by, as she explained, having a &#8220;watch party that they Facetimed me into, and they were having a cookout, and I wished that I was there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Amandla Stenberg talks &#039;The Acolyte&#039;\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KAcJEIbaz0g?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;%23038;origin=https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Perhaps Amandla Stenberg will be the one that bridges the gap between <em>Star Wars<\/em> fans who are fed up with the franchise, and <em>Star Wars<\/em> fans who love its new direction. She responds with understanding and maturity and keeps things light, as if suggesting that you can&#8217;t please everyone, but you can still do the best you possibly can, without negatively responding to the criticism. <\/p>\n<p>Am I saying that she is the Chosen One? Not really, because there is no such prophecy outside of the saga, but I do believe Stenberg will prove important to the future of <em>Star Wars<\/em>, and will bring more people on board who
