Wins may be few and far between, but what players have shined during the beginning of the year? <\/p>\n<p id=\"fr3jSl\">Here is a look at team awards at the quarter mark:<\/p>\n<hr class=\"p-entry-hr\" id=\"2kwJne\">\n<h2 id=\"XJ02HT\"><strong>MVP: Dearica Hamby<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p id=\"9aR7kO\">You may have a different favorite, but you can\u2019t name a better player on this Sparks team than Dearica Hamby. She\u2019s averaging 20.4 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game. All these numbers are team highs and career highs. <\/p>\n<div id=\"WGMhcN\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\" align=\"center\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">WHAT A PLAY BY HAMBY  <\/p>\n<p>After snatching the steal, Dearica Hamby spins in transition, putting the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LASparks?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LASparks<\/a> up by three in the 4Q  <\/p>\n<p>DAL-LAS on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/IONWNBA?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#IONWNBA<\/a> as part of WNBA Commissioner&#8217;s Cup presented by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/coinbase?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@coinbase<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Y15ctM9b4F\">pic.twitter.com\/Y15ctM9b4F<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 WNBA (@WNBA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WNBA\/status\/1799285684630331590?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 8, 2024<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"2PzAzI\">During training camp, head coach Curt Miller mentioned that there wasn\u2019t a bonafide leader on this team, but 10 games in, Miller\u2019s hypothesis is not supported by the evidence on the floor. There is a leader\u2014and it\u2019s Hamby. She\u2019s the best player, a consummate professional and a vocal leader on and off the floor. <\/p>\n<p id=\"JXzNwX\">Hamby is already a two-time All-Star, and if she continues this level of play, she\u2019ll be heading to Phoenix this July to represent the Sparks for her third All-Star honor.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"nM1tkI\"><strong>DPOY: Cameron Brink<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p id=\"5TPxGC\">How good Cameron Brink already is as a defender in her rookie year is ineffable. The WNBA could double the size of the rim, and it wouldn\u2019t matter because any shot attempts near the basket are getting blocked by Brink anyways. She\u2019s averaging 2.5 rejections per game, which is third-best in the league; her 25 blocks put her just five behind Ezi Magbegor for the top spot. <\/p>\n<p id=\"rPbJAX\">It\u2019s not just protecting the rim where Brink shines. She\u2019s handling the league&#8217;s physicality well and is fast enough to switch on guards without being vulnerable to being targeted as a mismatch. <\/p>\n<div id=\"UtxavQ\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\" align=\"center\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Cameron Brink with the block and she is HYPED <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WNBA?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WNBA<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/whWnqafdMf\">pic.twitter.com\/whWnqafdMf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Tyler DeLuca (@TylerDeLuca) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TylerDeLuca\/status\/1799278405499904038?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 8, 2024<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"IHDiOM\">She needs to work on her offensive game and her propensity to foul, but defensively, she\u2019s already one of the best in the league and clearly the best in a Sparks uniform.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"wywzg1\"><strong>Sixth POY: Aari McDonald<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p id=\"UjBNGe\">This award was a tough one to give out. The bench has struggled to be a positive, especially since Rickea Jackson, who had split time between the bench and the starting lineup, is going to be a starter from here on out. So, I went with a player who hasn\u2019t started any games this season: Aari McDonald. <\/p>\n<p id=\"qIPeNN\">Her play has been a mixed bag, but she\u2019s playing 16.3 minuets per game and producing a respectable 5.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Her best performance came against the Indiana Fever, where she scored 21 points to help the Sparks earn the road win.<\/p>\n<div id=\"4M5CG6\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\" align=\"center\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Aari McDonald stepped up big time in tonight&#8217;s win vs the Fever  <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LASparks?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LASparks<\/a> guard tallied 21 PTS, shooting an impressive 6-9 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc  <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/WelcometotheW?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#WelcometotheW<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/7pgwlylw9D\">pic.twitter.com\/7pgwlylw9D<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 WNBA (@WNBA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WNBA\/status\/1795648241771372934?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 29, 2024<\/a>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"yW51Uo\">McDonald\u2019s play hasn\u2019t been spectacular, but she\u2019s been consistent and you can see how she\u2019s getting more and more comfortable playing under Miller as the season has progressed. Hopefully, she only gets better as the season continues. <\/p>\n<h2 id=\"FLb3kJ\"><strong>MIP: Dearica Hamby<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p id=\"mEVX8J\">Most Valuable and Most Improved? Sure, why not. <\/p>\n<p id=\"Rh8RR3\">Hamby has exceeded all expectations early on, and with her numbers taking an enormous jump, no one else on the roster has improved more from 2023 to 2024 quite like Hamby. I can see a guard like Kia Nurse or Lexie Brown eventually winning this award at year\u2019s end, but right now, Hamby has improved the most. <\/p>\n<div id=\"wkWGx3\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\" align=\"center\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">L.A. forward Dearica Hamby now has eight double-doubles in her first 10 games of the season.
