However, when Musk has an idea for a change, he generally makes it fairly quickly after he announces it. Perhaps giving more time between the announcement and the change would help gauge users\u2019 reaction.<\/p>\n<p>He actually did change his mind based on reactions after <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/social-media\/no-more-block-parties-for-twitter-x-users-as-musk-announces-block-option-to-be-eliminated\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">announcing that users will no longer be allowed to block others<\/a>, except for DM&#8217;s. Since he didn&#8217;t make that change right away, coupled with the mass pushback, he decided to not eliminate blocking after all.<\/p>\n<p>Now, however, there&#8217;s yet another change, and it has been implemented <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/social-media\/why-is-twitter-removing-likes-the-private-likes-situation-explained\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">just days after it was announced<\/a>. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Why does everything done to this platform only make it worse?<\/p>\n<p>I&#39;ve yet to see a good decision made.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; skye (@skyera1n) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/skyera1n\/status\/1800659742282383561?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 11, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The change has to do with liking other people&#8217;s posts. \u201cLiking&#8221; a user&#8217;s post can show support for that user, partly because if you follow someone, then you can see which posts that someone &#8220;likes.&#8221; It can also be a way to not flood other people&#8217;s timelines, because that user is not constantly reposting everything they like.<\/p>\n<p>One problem with this is that people have shown support of political posts that people on the other side of the political aisle will then call out. This leads to unnecessary arguments (a common practice on X) and sometimes worse, especially if the person is fairly well known because they will have other X users demanding answers.<\/p>\n<p>Now, &#8220;likes&#8221; are private. Musk&#8217;s motivations are for numerous. First, to avoid the annoyances explained above. Second, to increase how many likes a post receives  \u2014 the idea being that more people will more freely like it since no one can embarrass them for liking it, though it\u2019s also possible that the idea of liking a post publicly now serves less of a point. Third, to make the &#8220;For You&#8221; timeline on X geared more towards what you like.<\/p>\n<p>That third one, though stated specifically by Musk, is questionable because it&#8217;s entirely based on the assumption that you would actually &#8220;like&#8221; more posts. Also, the other timeline is accounts you follow so, if anything, it increases the possibility that someone will be able to follow you without actually &#8220;following&#8221; you. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Important to allow people to like posts without getting attacked for doing so! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/3O1bG7wIGe\">https:\/\/t.co\/3O1bG7wIGe<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Elon Musk (@elonmusk) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1800601849973576068?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 11, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/social-media\/elon-musk-has-cruel-response-to-npr-leaving-twitter-lauren-boebert-agrees\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Many big accounts have left X<\/a> thanks to some of Musk\u2019s previous changes.<\/p>\n<p>I know multiple accounts who have over 10k followers and their biggest issue is that there are accounts that constantly &#8220;like&#8221; their posts without ever following them but they all would rather see their content earn more followers at this point since their posts already receive a significant amount of likes. This new policy increases the chances of accounts not needing to follow you.<\/p>\n<p>But the biggest problem is something that a vast majority of people have already pointed out, which is that it\u2019s mandatory. Musk would have been better served to simply offer this as an option.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, there is a controversial reason why Musk likely made this change and it\u2019s hidden under his desire for <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/social-media\/elons-firing-of-twitter-exec-vijaya-gadde-was-years-in-the-making\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">free speech on the app.<\/a><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Twitter\/X announces they are officially allowing adult content:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou may share consensually produced and distributed adult nudity or sexual behavior [\u2026] users should be able to create, distribute, and consume material related to sexual themes as long as it is consensually\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/X449GEBfYf\">pic.twitter.com\/X449GEBfYf<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Pop Base (@PopBase) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/PopBase\/status\/1797667404476219797?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 3, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Last month, despite many protesting the endless adult material accounts that litter their timeline and thus make the former bird app not the most morally sound of the social media platforms, Musk announced that adult content will be welcomed. Free speech is the reason he offers, though speech has nothing to do with people posting their sexual acts publicly. Why not make those videos private instead of someone&#8217;s likes? Aren\u2019t our likes more related to free speech then someone else&#8217;s intimate videos?<\/p>\n<p>Maybe that&#8217;s why Musk changed the name to &#8220;X,&#8221; because he knows it will now become the X-rated platform that uses sex as a way for him to make more money. He can further increase his revenue by paving the way for more potentially popular accounts \u2014 like porn accounts \u2014 to join the platform.
