What she\u2019s doing for the Lynx in 2024 should earn her a fourth.<\/p>\n<p id=\"gzUn1k\">If there\u2019s one thing that has defined the Minnesota Lynx\u2019 success in 2024, it\u2019s 3-point shooting. And if there\u2019s one player on the Lynx who defines that shooting, it\u2019s Kayla McBride.<\/p>\n<p id=\"uGEAIx\">The Lynx (11-3) are in third place in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swishappeal.com\/\">WNBA<\/a> standings, thanks in large part to an offense that emphasizes floor spacing and selflessness. Though Minnesota features one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sbnation.com\/c\/wnba\/2024\/6\/3\/24150475\/wnba-best-players-power-rankings-2024-season\">league\u2019s best players<\/a> in Napheesa Collier, its approach to scoring the basketball hinges upon playing as a unit, turning down good shots for great ones and stretching opposing defenses thin with scoring threats at every position. That offensive philosophy has certainly worked so far. Minnesota currently ranks No. 2 in the WNBA in <a href=\"https:\/\/stats.wnba.com\/teams\/advanced\/?sort=OFF_RATING&amp;dir=-1&amp;Season=2024&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season&amp;DateTo=06%2F18%2F2024\">offensive rating<\/a>, scoring 105.6 points per 100 possessions, and No. 1 in <a href=\"https:\/\/stats.wnba.com\/teams\/advanced\/?sort=EFG_PCT&amp;dir=-1&amp;Season=2024&amp;SeasonType=Regular%20Season&amp;DateTo=06%2F18%2F2024\">effective field goal percentage<\/a> at 53.9 percent.<\/p>\n<p id=\"GA1PRa\">It\u2019s been McBride\u2019s spectacular shooting that is fueling those numbers. Now in her 11th WNBA season, McBride has been known for years as one of the league\u2019s deadliest jumpshooters, and she has the accolades to prove it, including a trio of All-Star appearances and an All-Rookie nod in 2014.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"e-image\">\n        <img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Dallas Wings v Minnesota Lynx\" data-mask-text=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.vox-cdn.com\/thumbor\/PMsAzlDJTRg5A5zCAaUyt-DU18c=\/400x0\/filters:no_upscale()\/cdn.vox-cdn.com\/uploads\/chorus_asset\/file\/25496640\/2155202219.jpg\"><br \/>\n      <cite>Photo by David Sherman\/NBAE via Getty Images<\/cite><figcaption>McBride is having an historic season shooting the basketball.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"PY85rw\">The run McBride has been on in 2024, however, is outstanding even by her standards. She\u2019s currently averaging 17.1 points per game, her most since signing with the Lynx in 2021, and shooting an incredible 49.5 percent on 3-pointers, making 3.5 of them per contest.<\/p>\n<p id=\"Dxoydt\">Let\u2019s take a step back for a minute and contextualize those statistics. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/u.acrossthetimeline.com\/stat-PvAzC\">Across the Timeline<\/a>, only six other players in the WNBA are getting up as many 3-pointers per game (seven) as McBride is, and none of them are connecting on nearly as many. It\u2019s not hyperbole to say that no one is shooting the ball as well as McBride.<\/p>\n<p id=\"4PwAmi\">In fact, not many players in WNBA history have. <a href=\"https:\/\/acrossthetimeline.com\/wnba\/data-explorer.html#c=Show_Results%3Ds%3Athreepp~Stats%3Dl%3Athreepa%24pergame%7Co%3A%3E%3D%7Cr%3A7&amp;co=Player%2CYear%2CTeam(s)%2CDraft%2CAge%2CSeason%20%23%2CGames%2CGS%2CGR%2CW%2CL%2CW%25%2C3PA%2C3P%25%2CMP%2CFGM%2CFGA%2CFG%25%2C3PM%2C3PA%2C3P%25%2C2PM%2C2PA%2C2P%25%2CFTM%2CFTA%2CFT%25%2C%2B%2F-%2COREB%2CDREB%2CREB%2CAST%2CSTL%2CBLK%2CSTK%2CTOV%2CPF%2CPTS&amp;so=3P%25%3Dd&amp;t=pseason\">Only two players<\/a>\u2014Sabrina Ionescu in 2023 and Kelsey Plum in 2022\u2014have shot 40 percent or better on seven 3-point attempts per game. If we\u2019re strictly talking All-Star credentials, though, the numbers she\u2019s putting up give her a solid case. It goes without saying that McBride has been one of the WNBA\u2019s most efficient scorers\u2014her 64.1 percent effective field goal percentage <a href=\"https:\/\/u.acrossthetimeline.com\/stat-KsylP\">ranks second<\/a> among players who have totaled at least 100 field goal attempts\u2014but she\u2019s also having the best playmaking season of her career, chipping in 3.9 assists per game in Minnesota\u2019s egalitarian offensive system. <\/p>\n<p id=\"vorFAz\">McBride\u2019s game isn\u2019t the flashiest, and to the casual viewer, she may not stand out as much on a Lynx team that would rather each of its players excel in their respective roles than have one or two hog the spotlight. That doesn\u2019t make her any less deserving of an All-Star nod in 2024, though; she\u2019s having a shooting season for the ages, and it\u2019s directly contributed to her team\u2019s winning
