Fresh off the confirmed death of 2B and 9S falling from a great height, 2B’s former Pod sets to work reconstructing and playing back the memories of A2, AKA Number 2, starting with her very first mission to earth with 15 other brand-new advanced YoRHa models. Of those sixteen, only eight survive an attack from ML ground-based lasers, and only four are able to walk under their own power. Their leader, Number 1, is among the casualties, and suddenly Number 2 is thrust into an unexpected leadership role.<\/p>\n

Number 2 insists that she and the other three carry their comrades who still live, but that becomes untenable when an ML army numbering 128,000 units attacks their cave. They are saved by the Resistance, led by Rose and with Lily as a member. After Number 2 pleads with them to assist with their secret mission to infiltrate and destroy an ML server, Rose agrees, and the two infantry units, abandoned by the Moon and Command, unite.<\/p>\n

Number 2 and her subordinates eventually form a rapport with the less formal Resistance members, leading to the incident where Lily is infected by a virus and Rose is ready to kill her. 2 refuses to let Rose kill a member of her family, and they manage to save her and purge her of the virus. They continue on their mission, more close-knit than ever.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, like 2B and 9S falling for each other on a romantic level, no good comes from androids developing a sense of family or camaraderie. When they reach the server, the MLs use desecrated bodies of other androids to mock them, saying that YoRHa and by extension humanity had basically planned for all<\/em> of the awful, tragic shit to happen to Number 2, in order to gather data for the next models (which would eventually become 2B).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In the ensuing destruction of the servers, both Rose and Number 4 sacrifice themselves, and Number 2 is left alone. As we learn from memories she had self-destroyed, the meaning of life she had come up with was to protect her family, because she loved being together with them.<\/p>\n

Now Number 2’s family is gone, and she wakes up in a bed in the friendly ML village led by Pascale. Something tells me she would have preferred staying asleep, even if androids don’t dream. But now that she’s awake, she must find a new meaning of life.<\/p>\n
