After years of fans asking for it, Toyota finally introduced a hot hatch version of the Corolla, called the GR Corolla. Toyota’s Gazoo Racing team started with the base Corolla hatchback, but pumped in a big dose of steroids to make it rival other heavyweights, like the Honda Civic Type R.<\/p>\n

The Toyota Corolla has long been the go-to choice for those seeking a reliable and practical car, but let’s be honest\u2014it hasn’t been synonymous with excitement for quite a while. Enter the 2024 Toyota GR Corolla, a hot hatch that not only revives the Corolla\u2019s mojo but also positions itself as one of the most exhilarating cars in its segment.<\/p>\n

Compact sport models are experiencing a renaissance, with the GR Corolla leading the charge alongside competitors like the Hyundai Elantra N and the iconic Honda Civic Type R. The heart of the GR Corolla is its 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, delivering 300 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Paired with a six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive, this setup gives the GR Corolla a significant edge over front-wheel-drive competitors like the Civic Type R and Elantra N. The result? A thrilling 0-60 mph time of 4.99 seconds and a top track speed of 143 mph.<\/p>\n

Regardless of which trim you choose\u2014Core, Premium or Circuit Edition, the GR Corolla\u2019s six-speed manual and adjustable torque split make it an absolute joy to drive. You can manually adjust the torque split to favor the front or rear wheels, with the 50\/50 split ideal for the track and the 30\/70 split providing the most fun on twisty roads. The Circuit Edition increases the fun with its front and rear Torsen\u00a0limited-slip differentials. If you really wish the GR Corolla offered an automatic transmission, the good news is that Toyota has already confirmed the 2025 GR Corolla will be available with one.<\/p>\n

Handling is another strong suit of the GR Corolla. With Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires and a well-tuned suspension, this hot hatch sticks to the asphalt and tackles corners with ease. It\u2019s a bit more forgiving than the Civic Type R, offering a smoother ride around town while still keeping body roll in check. The only downside? The electric power steering could offer a bit more feedback.<\/p>\n

Pricing for the 2024 GR Corolla starts at $37,635 for the Core trim, making it a more affordable option than the Civic Type R. The mid-grade Premium Edition is priced at $41,455. The top spec Circuit Edition is priced at $46,275. In addition to the limited slip differentials, the Circuit Edition also gets unique 18-inch wheels, red brake calipers, a carbon fiber roof, a hood bulge with functional air vents and a large rear spoiler.<\/p>\n
