Unlike new legacy films like <em>Halloween<\/em> that erase decades of history, <em>Romulus<\/em> is a love letter to the entire franchise. As far as this sequel is concerned, <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/movies\/every-movie-in-the-alien-franchise-ranked\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all <em>Alien<\/em> movies<\/a> are worthwhile. And while not everyone can appreciate the wild swings that <em>Romulus<\/em> takes in its third act, it honors most of the previous films, with many callbacks. Let&#8217;s break them down. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-final-fight-from-alien\">The final fight from <em>Alien<\/em><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Alien (1979) - Ripley&#039;s Last Stand Scene (5\/5) | Movieclips\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/U-mmbStFrAA?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;%23038;origin=https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>You know what they say. It isn&#8217;t an <em>Alien<\/em> movie if the final girl isn&#8217;t struggling to rush into a space suit before blasting a <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/movies\/which-artist-designed-the-alien-franchise-xenomorph-and-how-did-he-come-up-with-the-iconic-design\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Xenomorph<\/a> into space. That is the climax of <em>Alien<\/em> as well as <em>Alien: Romulus<\/em>. Just as Rain (Cailee Spaeny) thinks she&#8217;s safe, she is surprised by one final boss fight. Rain dons the classic suit and kills this new creature in the only proven way that works \u2014 dropping it into space. She finishes off the film just as Sigourney Weaver once did with a voice-over wrapping up the events of the film.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-return-of-ian-holm\">The return of Ian Holm<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Alien (1979) - Acid Blood Scene (1\/5) | Movieclips\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/gEqHJ1tomnk?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;%23038;origin=https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>One of the big surprises of <em>Alien: Romulus<\/em> was seeing the eerie computerized likeness of Ian Holm. While the effects didn&#8217;t entirely pull it off, it was a rush of nostalgia to see the return of the familiar Android. As opposed to his role as Ash in <em>Alien<\/em>, Holm&#8217;s appearance takes on the character of another Android of the same class named Rook, intent on getting the Xenomorph solution back to the mining colony by any means necessary.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-pulse-rifle\">The pulse rifle<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"ALIENS 1986 M41A Pulse Rifle SCENE MOVIE CLIP - 4K UHD HDR Custom 21\/33\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DbaTq3mt7qs?list=PLEGdQFob-Y95TG4JcCUvFCWHg9eq_B28J\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>When facing off against an unkillable monster, there isn&#8217;t a lot of time for romance. Instead, viewers get a tension-filled moment with one character teaching another how to use a gun. In <em>Aliens<\/em>, Hicks (Michael Biehn) teaches Ripley how to use a pulse rifle while in <em>Romulus<\/em>, the same sexually charged moment occurs between Tyler (Archie Renaux) and Rain.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-get-away-from-her\">&#8220;Get away from her&#8221;<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"ALIENS 1986 RIPLEY VS QUEEN SCENE MOVIE CLIP - 4K UHD HDR Custom HDR10+ 32\/33\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/K2ZsQZ2Niik?start=56&#038;feature=oembed&#038;%23038;enablejsapi=1&#038;%23038;origin=https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p><em>Aliens<\/em> contains one of the most famous lines of the franchise as Ripley suits up to save Newt (Carrie Henn). As she approaches the Xenomorph, she warns &#8220;Get away from her, you bitch,&#8221; echoed by Andy (David Jonsson) in <em>Romulus<\/em> as he heroically saves Rain.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-in-close-quarters-with-a-xenomorph-in-alien-3\">In close quarters with a Xenomorph in <em>Alien<\/em> 3<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Alien 3 (1\/5) Movie CLIP - Dr. Clemens Killed (1992) HD\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DNuzmKc7mq4?start=119&#038;feature=oembed&#038;%23038;enablejsapi=1&#038;%23038;origin=https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>While not the most beloved of the franchise, <em>Alien 3<\/em> does have one of the most recognizable images in the franchise. Trapped in a room with a Xenomorph, the creature slobbers near Ripley&#8217;s head. The same close-quarters confinement occurs in <em>Romulus<\/em> when Rain is trapped in an elevator shaft with the snarling beast.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-black-goo-in-prometheus\">The black goo in <em>Prometheus<\/em><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Prometheus - David Infects Holloway (HD)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BWnM6Y63yUw?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;%23038;origin=https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The criminally underrated prequel, <em>Prometheus<\/em>, shows the beginnings of the Xenomorph. Weyland (Guy Pearce) wants to achieve immortality and dispatches David (Michael Fassbender) to find a way. The crew of the Prometheus finds a biological weapon of black goo. Though it wasn&#8217;t ready in <em>Prometheus<\/em>, it comes back in <em>Romulus<\/em> to further the plot. Weyland-Yutani is still trying to find a way to synthesize the goo to improve human life.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-alien-hybrid-in-alien-resurrection\">The alien hybrid in <em>Alien: Resurrection<\/em><\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Alien: Resurrection (4\/5) Movie CLIP - Mutation (1997) HD\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UsJjfS-i2zM?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;%23038;origin=https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>In <em>Alien: Resurrection<\/em>, scientists make a grotesque human\/Xenomorph hybrid that creates an even more horrifying monster. An echo of this occurs in <em>Romulus<\/em> when Kay (Isabela Merced), a pregnant crew member, injects herself with the black goo from Romulus. Hoping it will spare her child from the mortal wounds she has endured, it instead changes the life inside her and creates an unsettling hybrid.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-smaller-easter-eggs\">Smaller easter eggs<\/h2>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Alien Isolation - Gamescom Cinematic Trailer\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1BRz_s3Zvaw?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;%23038;origin=https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Look close enough in <em>Romulus<\/em> and you can spot emergency telephone booths that act as registration points in the 2014 survival video game, <em>Alien: Isolation<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>The film also connects back to <em>Alien: Covenant<\/em> in an unexpected way; when the crew sets foot on the Romulus space station, Wagner&#8217;s &#8220;Entry of the Gods Into Valhalla&#8221; can be heard, which David plays for
