The second day of wheelchair basketball at the Bercy Arena in Paris brought even more excitement, as teams battled fiercely on the court.<\/p>\n

China secured a second win to sit atop Pool A in the women’s competition, while reigning champions Netherlands got their title defense off to a winning start in Pool B. In the men’s competition,\u00a0 Whilst in the men’s, Spain bounced back, and Canada upset hosts France in their opening game.<\/p>\n

Netherlands vs Japan (Women)<\/h4>\n

The Netherlands<\/strong> women’s team opened their Paralympic campaign with a dominant 87-34<\/strong> victory over Japan<\/strong>. From the tip-off, the Dutch players showcased their superiority, exploiting height mismatches to their advantage. By halftime, the Netherlands had built a commanding lead, driven by Bo Kramer\u2019s 27 points on 12\/14 shooting. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The second half saw continued Dutch dominance, with excellent ball movement and a stifling defense that forced Japan into tough shots. Mariska Beijer<\/strong> and Bo Kramer<\/strong> led the scoring with 28 and 27 points respectively, while Japan\u2019s Mayumi Tsuchida<\/strong> fought hard, leading her team with 14 points.<\/p>\n

Spain vs Australia (Men)<\/h4>\n

Spain\u2019s<\/strong> men\u2019s team rebounded from their opening-day disappointment with a convincing 68-60<\/strong> win over Australia<\/strong>. The first half was competitive, with Spain effectively using a zone defense. Alejandro Zarzuela starred in the first half, scoring 13 points on 86% shooting. In the second half, Spain pulled away as Australia struggled with poor shooting and transition defense. Despite youngsters Jaylen Brown<\/strong> scoring 22 points and Eithen Leard<\/strong> making key shots in the fourth quarter, Spain\u2019s momentum proved unstoppable. Zarzuela<\/strong> finished with 25 points and 9 rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double.<\/p>\n

Germany vs USA (Women)<\/h4>\n

The USA<\/strong> women\u2019s team opened their campaign with a rerun of the bronze medal match from the 2022 World Championships against Germany<\/strong>. The USA defeated Germany 73-44<\/strong>. The Americans took control early, significantly outscoring Germany in the second quarter, which allowed them to manage the game and maintain a strong lead throughout. Courtney Ryan<\/strong>, Rose Hollermann<\/strong>, and Becca Murray<\/strong> were key to the victory, with Murray achieving a double-double (13 points, 12 assists). Despite Germany’s efforts, including bench rotations to find a solution, they couldn\u2019t match the USA’s depth and quality, as every American player contributed to the win.<\/p>\n

France vs Canada (Men)<\/h4>\n

In a buzzing Bercy Arena, Canada<\/strong> secured a hard-fought 83-68<\/strong> victory over France<\/strong> in what was the game of the day. The first half was closely contested, with France briefly taking the lead before halftime, delighting the full house of French supporters. Nicolas<\/strong> Jouanserre<\/strong> fueled the French effort with a stellar 26-point first half. However, Canada turned up the heat in the second half, led by the dynamic duo of Pat Anderson<\/strong> and Colin Higgins<\/strong>. Anderson recorded a triple-double with 31 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists, while Higgins added 38 points. Canada\u2019s defensive adjustments in the second half stifled Jouanserre, keeping him to only 12 points in the second half (totaling 38 points), allowing Canada to pull away and secure the win.<\/p>\n

China vs Spain (Women)<\/h4>\n

China\u2019s<\/strong> women\u2019s team earned their second win of the tournament with a clinical 64-38<\/strong> performance against Spain<\/strong>. The first half was marked by China\u2019s relentless pressure, which forced numerous turnovers and allowed them to build a substantial lead. Spain struggled to match China\u2019s pace and precision. Despite a brief rally from Spain in the third quarter, China\u2019s technical superiority remained evident. Zhang Tonglei<\/strong> and Suiling Lin<\/strong> were standout performers for China, while Beatriz Zudaire<\/strong> was the lone bright spot for Spain, being the only player to reach double figures.<\/p>\n

As the competition heats up, Day 2 has set the stage for even more thrilling basketball at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. The intensity on the court is only expected to rise as the tournament progresses.<\/p>\n
