Sony Honda Mobility has revealed a slew of information about their upcoming EV sedan, the Afeela 1, including pricing, availability, and specs.<\/p>\n

The Afeela 1 will be available in two trim levels: the Afeela 1 Origin, priced at $89,900, and the Afeela 1 Signature, priced at $109,900. The more expensive Signature trim will be the first available to customers with a projected mid-2026 delivery. Origin trims will begin deliveries sometime in 2027.<\/p>\n

Both versions will come with Afeela Intelligent Drive (level 2+ ADAS), Afeela Personal Agent (virtual assistant), 3D mapping, immersive entertainment options, a spatial sound system, customizable interior themes, and 5G connectivity. Afeela 1’s ADAS system will be one of the most advanced in the world featuring 40 sensors including a whopping 18 cameras, 1 LIDAR array, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 9 radar sets. Notably, the ADAS, virtual assistant, immersive entertainment, and customizable themes will be part of a subscription package, with Afeela 1 coming with a three-year subscription as part of its MSRP. Sony Honda Mobility gave no word on pricing for that subscription package after the three-year period ends.<\/p>\n

Sony Honda Mobility also revealed a “near-final” version of the Afeela 1. The design remains virtually unchanged from the last prototype, with smooth, minimal styling, short overhangs, and even the small color “Media Bar” screen at the front between the headlights which can display different pictures and messages. Origin trims will only be available in Core Black, while Signature trim buyers will be able to choose between Calm White, Tidal Gray, and Core Black.<\/p>\n

Inside, the Afeela 1 features a tech-laden interior with a full-width screen spanning the entire width of its dashboard. The more expensive Signature trim gains a pair of touchscreens for the rear seat passengers. A yoke steering wheel is featured on the prototype, and soft ambient lighting can be seen throughout the cabin.<\/p>\n

Afeela 1 is projected to have a range of around 300 miles from a 91 kWh battery pack and boast 480 hp from two electric motors at the front and one at the rear. It will be capable of a relatively tame 150 kW DC fast charging speed. Afeela 1 will also be equipped with the NACS charge port, giving it native access to Tesla’s Supercharger network.<\/p>\n

Sony surprised the world with their Vision-S EV sedan concept at CES 2020 raising more than a few eyebrows as it was almost entirely unexpected. At the time, it appeared to be mostly a hypothetical testbed for future in-car tech and autonomy rather than a vehicle Sony would actually build. An SUV version followed two years later, which was very much just a crossover version of the original Vision-S sedan concept. Last year, Sony solidified their plans to actually build vehicles by announcing a partnership with Honda (Sony Honda Mobility) and unveiling a new prototype sedan dubbed “Afeela.”<\/p>\n

Only initially available to residents of California, potential buyers can reserve their Afeela 1 starting today for a $200 fully refundable deposit at the company’s site.<\/p>\n
