Mayor Karen Bass is in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/01\/08\/us-news\/la-residents-rip-mayor-bass-as-wildfire-burns-homes-to-the-ground-youre-useless\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">She was in Ghana<\/a> when the deadly fires broke out, a terrible look for the big-city leader. Her budget cuts, including $17.6 million for the city&#8217;s fire department, also are catching up to her.<\/p>\n<p>Now, some wonder if the progressive city&#8217;s DEI efforts fueled the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Enter<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/adam-carolla-howard-stern-trump-derangement-syndrome\/\"> Adam Carolla<\/a> or, at least, <a href=\"https:\/\/capitalresearch.org\/article\/carolla-testifies-before-congress\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">testimony he shared with Congress<\/a> nearly eight years ago.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">This story is all too familiar:<\/p>\n<p>Adam Carolla applied to be an LA firefighter, and was told he had to wait 7 years because he wasn&#8217;t black, hispanic, or female.<\/p>\n<p>DEI kills.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5tLWzVIi3C\">pic.twitter.com\/5tLWzVIi3C<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 John LeFevre (@JohnLeFevre) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnLeFevre\/status\/1877013228091244917?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 8, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>The comedian appeared before the government body to defend free speech, part of his<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/no-safe-spaces-review\/\"> &#8220;No Safe Spaces&#8221;<\/a> project. He used the opportunity to share tales from his youth, including the time he tried to become an L.A. fire fighter.<\/p>\n<p>It didn&#8217;t go well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cI graduated North Hollywood High with a 1.7 GPA and could not find a job. I walked to a fire station. I was 19 and living in the garage of my family home and my mom was on welfare and food stamps. I said, \u2018Can I get a job as a fireman?\u2019 and they said, \u2018No, because you\u2019re not black, Hispanic or a woman and we\u2019ll see you in about seven years.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He eventually got the invite to apply &#8211; roughly seven years later, he recalled during his testimony. He took the written exam and queried a fellow applicant while waiting at the government office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">&#8220;I had a young woman of color standing behind me in line, and I said to her, &#8216;Just out of curiosity, when did you sign up to become a fire man?&#8217; &#8230; she said, &#8216;Wednesday.&#8217; That is an example of my white privilege.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/adam-carollas-la-firefighter-dei\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodintoto.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/wp-youtube-lyte\/lyteCache.php?origThumbUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2F79QNC7cqJsc%2Fhqdefault.jpg\" alt=\"YouTube Video\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>He shared the anecdote to critique race-based policies, particularly those taught on college campuses. Now, the clip is going viral for different reasons.<\/p>\n<p>X owner Elon Musk shared a post featuring Carolla&#8217;s testimony on his platform and it quickly amassed more than 4.4 million views.<\/p>\n<p>And counting.<\/p>\n<p>Others are aggressively reposting the 2017 era clip, including Carolla.
