Last week, the president-elect <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/politics\/neither-donald-trump-nor-marjorie-taylor-greene-can-spell-gavin-newsom-but-thats-not-why-they-should-be-ashamed-of-themselves\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">took aim at governor Gavin Newsom<\/a>, referring to him as \u201cNewscum\u201d and <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/social-media\/if-the-california-wildfires-are-gavin-newsoms-fault-then-whos-to-blame-for-the-texas-power-outage-and-florida-hurricanes\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">saying he \u201cis the blame\u201d for the devastating fires<\/a>. In a post on Truth Social, Trump baselessly claimed that Newsom had blocked a measure that would have increased water flow to Southern California.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">President Trump just posted this on his truth social. Gavin Newsom needs to go. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/LtuFAskV6M\" >pic.twitter.com\/LtuFAskV6M<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Elizabeth Helgelien (@ElizabethForNV) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ElizabethForNV\/status\/1877038428056875367?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" >January 8, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>He said Newsom\u2019s supposed refusal to sign the water restoration declaration prohibited \u201cmillions of gallons of water\u201d from flowing into \u201cmany parts of California, including the areas that are currently burning in a virtually apocalyptic way.\u201d In that same post, Trump claimed Newsom\u2019s blocking of the measure was \u201cto protect an essentially worthless fish called a smelt,\u201d implying that these protections to keep the fish from extinction had caused some fire hydrants to run dry in parts of LA.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Donald Trump Months ago talking to Joe Rogan about how to solve the wildfires in California <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uG8GI7rs7Y\" >pic.twitter.com\/uG8GI7rs7Y<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; 60below (@60below) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/60below\/status\/1877454914441318541?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" >January 9, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Trump discussed these topics in an interview with Joe Rogan in the lead-up to the election. However, some observers have found his tone appears to laments the cost of wildfire management more than the devastation and loss of life they incur. \u201cIn order to protect a tiny little fish, the water up north gets routed into the Pacific,\u201d Trump claimed. He also said that \u201cwater isn\u2019t allowed to flow down\u201d from other areas into Southern California, and that, once elected, he \u201ccould have water for all of that land.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Later, Rogan described the dryness of California&#8217;s forests as \u201cdangerous\u201d but Trump seemed less concerned about a wildfire\u2019s threat to human life as he was about the cost of wildfire management. \u201cNot only dangerous,\u201d Trump replied, \u201cbillions of dollars a year they spend on forest fires.\u201d The president-elect has exhibited this same sentiment in his response to the L.A. wildfires, which have so far left at least 24 people dead. Calling this out, Newsom criticized Trump\u2019s threat to withhold aid from California, proving his prioritization of saving government expenditure over containing the wildfires.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: Gavin Newsom just went after Donald Trump for politicizing the California wildfires. Trump\u2019s consistent factoring-in of money in discussions of wildfires dates back to his first presidency when he criticized Newsom on social media \u201ccom[ing] to the Federal Government for $$$\u201d amid the 2019 Kincade fires while declaring \u201cno more.\u201d In any case, Trump\u2019s rhetoric about the LA wildfires \u2014 in part caused by the effects of climate change \u2014 should be taken with a grain of salt, given his past stance on global warming.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, Trump has claimed climate change was \u201cinvented by the Chinese,\u201d that he doesn\u2019t know if global warming is \u201cmanmade,\u201d and that climate concerns are driven by \u201cglobal warming hoaxsters.\u201d Naturally, given this track record, Newsom delivered a searing response that still rings true, particularly when Trump\u2019s concerns are more about the financial cost than the human cost. \u201cYou don\u2019t believe in climate change,\u201d Newsom replied in
