Acura has revealed a photo and a bit of information on their first in-house developed EV, the RSX.<\/p>\n

The first-generation Acura RSX debuted in the US for the 2002 model year as a small liftback sports coupe occupying the bottom of the Acura range. This second-generation RSX continues the model line in name only as it will be a performance crossover EV.<\/p>\n

Acura released a camouflaged photo depicting the rear three-quarter view of the upcoming RSX. In it, we can see a fairly sleek-looking crossover with a coupe-like roofline, a full-width lightbar across the back, dramatically creased sides with a distinct scoop cutout behind the front wheels, and a charge port located just forward of the driver’s door.<\/p>\n

Of course, unlike the original RSX, this new one will feature four doors, but the rear liftgate does make an appearance. Other discernible details include pop-out door handles and surprisingly rationally sized, aerodynamically designed wheels.<\/p>\n

It’s very likely the front of the new RSX will feature a design inspired by the Acura Performance EV concept<\/a> with a sharp, beak-like look and a sharp, aggressive front bumper.<\/p>\n

Acura says this new RSX “pays homage to the Acura RSX with its coupe-like silhouette, but it truly represents a forward-looking approach to fun-to-drive performance.”<\/p>\n

The new Acura RSX is set to be the second EV to wear the Acura badge, the first being the Acura ZDX, which was jointly developed with and built by GM. The new RSX will be the first vehicle manufactured at Honda’s EV Hub in Ohio, which is currently undergoing a 700 million dollar upgrade. Other cars to be built at the EV Hub alongside the RSX include the recently announced Honda 0 Series products<\/a> and the Afeela 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Honda EV Hub will consist of updated versions of the company’s Marysville Auto Plant, the East Liberty Auto Plant, and the Anna Engine Plant, where Honda plans “to reimagine its approach to vehicle production, focusing on human-friendly and environmentally responsible manufacturing layouts, processes and materials that will also achieve the highest level of quality, efficiency and value to customers.”<\/p>\n

Acura is looking to bolster dropping sales with a lineup of new and refreshed vehicles, including a small crossover, the ADX<\/a>, and this new set of EVs.<\/p>\n

We will learn more about the upcoming Acura RSX as it nears production in what Acura says could be less than a year.<\/p>\n
