As we enter 2025, the global auto industry presents a landscape
\nof mixed opportunities and challenges. Market dynamics are
\ninfluenced by varying demand levels, regulatory changes, and
\ngeopolitical factors. The propulsion mix is evolving, with some
\nregions experiencing slower electric vehicle (EV) adoption while
\nothers show promising growth. The incoming Trump administration's
\nanticipated revisions to US emissions standards are expected to
\nsignificantly impact battery electric vehicle (BEV) production and
\nmarket share.<\/p>\n

Regional Highlights<\/h2>\n

Europe:<\/strong>\u202fThe light vehicle production outlook
\nfor Europe has been adjusted upward by 34,000 units for 2025 and
\n47,000 units for 2026, while also reflecting a positive adjustment
\nof 86,000 units for 2024. This growth is driven by strong
\nperformances from manufacturers like Volkswagen, Stellantis, and
\nToyota, particularly in the ICE segment. However, a projected
\ndecline of 10.5% year-on-year in Q4-2024 output indicates ongoing
\nchallenges, with an overall expected decrease of 3.0% in 2025
\nbefore a modest recovery in 2026.<\/p>\n

Greater China:<\/strong>\u202fGreater China's light vehicle
\nproduction outlook has been increased by 319,000 units for 2025,
\nbuoyed by robust domestic demand and scrappage incentives. December
\n2024 saw a year-over-year growth of 9%, with new energy vehicles
\n(NEVs) capturing over 50% market share in H2-2024. The government's
\nscrappage subsidy extension is expected to further support
\nproduction growth, leading to an anticipated total output of 30.1
\nmillion units in 2024, representing a 3.8% increase from the
\nprevious year.<\/p>\n

Japan\/Korea:<\/strong>\u202fJapan's short-term production
\nforecast has been reduced by approximately 30,000 units annually
\ndue to expected US tariff impacts on US domestic demand.
\nConversely, the long-term outlook has been upgraded by 140,000
\nunits, driven by anticipated stronger demand for ICE models in the
\nUS. South Korea's production forecast for 2025 has been lowered by
\nabout 20,000 units, reflecting local demand challenges stemming
\nfrom recent political instability.<\/p>\n

North America:<\/strong>\u202fThe North American light vehicle
\nproduction outlook has seen a slight increase of 7,000 units for
\n2025 and 2026. The market remains stable but is subject to
\nuncertainties due to the incoming administration's policies and
\ninflationary pressures. Significant reductions in BEV production
\nforecasts highlight a shift towards ICE vehicles, with over 1.7
\nmillion units of dedicated BEV nameplate production removed from
\nprojections through 2032.<\/p>\n

South America:\u202f<\/strong>The South American light vehicle
\nproduction outlook has been slightly decreased by 2,000 units for
\n2025 and 9,000 units for 2026, with a minor increase of 2,000 units
\nfor 2027. Overall, the production landscape appears stable, with
\nadjustments primarily reflecting demand changes. Long-term
\nforecasts indicate a modest downward revision of 1.1% in production
\nvolumes, aligning with evolving market demand.<\/p>\n

South Asia:<\/strong>\u202fThe outlook for South Asia has been
\nraised by 70,000 units for 2025, driven by positive developments in
\nthe Indian market, particularly for EVs. However, challenges
\npersist in the ASEAN region due to stricter auto loan policies and
\na sluggish market in Indonesia. The overall ASEAN production
\nforecast reflects ongoing economic uncertainties and trade
\ntensions, with a slight downgrade for 2026 as recovery may take
\nlonger than expected.<\/p>\n
