Upon seeing a test drive unit in PJ last week, I realised that it was the first time I’ve seen the Nissan Kicks e-Power<\/a> on the road and that deliveries of the B-segment SUV with the unique powertrain have yet to start. That’s about to change. <\/p>\n

Launched at the KL International Motor Show (KLIMS) 2024 last month, the Kicks will be hitting the roads soon as deliveries will begin in the coming weeks, Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) says.<\/p>\n

“We are excited to share that the Nissan Kicks e-Power is on track for delivery in the coming weeks. Our team is committed to expediting the process to ensure our customers can experience the revolutionary e-Power technology as soon as possible. This milestone reflects Nissan’s promise to bring future-forward mobility to Malaysians while delivering exceptional service and value,” said Khoo Cheng Pah, CEO of ETCM.<\/p>\n

What’s different here is the SUV’s e-Power drivetrain, which essentially is an EV powered by a petrol engine under the hood. The electric motor is a front-mounted 129 PS\/280 Nm unit while the ICE is a 82 PS\/103 Nm 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated three-cylinder. The HR12DE serves as a generator for the 2.06 kWh battery and has no mechanical connection to the wheels.<\/p>\n

Fuel consumption is rated at 21.7 km\/l, resulting in a claimed total range of up to 900 km with the 41 litre fuel tank. There’s a choice of Normal, Sport and Eco drive modes, plus a one-pedal e-Pedal Step mode. EV mode (where the ICE stays asleep) is possible up to 2.5 km at 40 km\/h max.<\/p>\n

Two variants are available – the VL at RM113,800 and the VLT at RM121,800, on-the-road before insurance. Add RM4,000 for a black roof on the VLT. ETCM has an early bird package<\/a> consisting of a RM5,000 rebate and 10-year EV warranty for the first 1,000 customers, so you can enquire if that’s still available.
