NBA Analysis Network learned about Jared McCain’s potential return timeline.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There have been a handful of good things about the Philadelphia 76ers’<\/a> 2024-25 NBA season, and rookie guard Jared McCain is certainly one of them.<\/p>\n

However, the former Duke star suffered a knee injury<\/a>. Initially, he was expected to return at some point during the season, but it was later confirmed that McCain will miss the entire season.<\/p>\n

With that said, NBA Analysis Network <\/strong>exclusively spoke to Dr. Derek Ochiai<\/a> and learned about a potential return timetable for the 20-year-old.<\/p>\n

Jared McCain could be back for the 2025-26 NBA season<\/h2>\n

McCain suffered a torn meniscus injury and it’s common for players to miss significant time in their recovery. But there are a few things to keep in mind when predicting a return timeline for players.<\/p>\n

According to Virginia\u2019s leading board-certified arthroscopic hip surgeon and sports medicine doctor, a 2025-26 return is possible for McCain, but on one condition.<\/p>\n

“Meniscal tears are common in athletes in cutting sports (basketball, soccer, etc). While his medical records are not known, it sounds like he had an isolated meniscal repair,” Ochiai said.<\/p>\n

“As long as his articular cartilage (the gliding cartilage of the knee) is still intact, a time frame to return for the 2025-26 season is very reasonable,” he added.<\/p>\n

So what’s the next part of the treatment?<\/p>\n

“There are many other athletes who have meniscal tears that are treated with partial meniscectomy, which is removing the torn part of the meniscus.”<\/p>\n

“While the short-term recovery from partial meniscectomy is quicker, the disadvantage is that the normal function of the meniscus is not restored with that operation.”<\/p>\n

McCain was having a terrific season before getting sidelined. He averaged 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game in the 2024-25 season.<\/p>\n
