Writing in <a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/article\/la-fires-wildfires-lost-homes-rebuild.html\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>New York Magazine<\/em><\/a><em>, <\/em>Abe recounted Streep\u2019s encounter with the Eaton blaze, which threatened her home in Pasadena when the wildfires broke out across Southern California earlier this month. While us regular folk might\u2019ve descended into panic, the Oscar-winning actress was intent on fleeing to safety, and opted for a bit of resourceful handiwork to create a route of her own. \u201cDetermined to make it out, she borrowed wire cutters from a neighbour, cut a car-size hole in the fence she shared with the neighbours on the other side, and drove through their yard to escape.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Given the sheer volume of her credits list, it\u2019s possible Streep picked up a few techniques on set that made such an escape possible, though it\u2019s far more likely she is simply the heroine we all imagine her to be. In any case, the actress was successful in evacuating her home, and it\u2019s thought that her Pasadena residence was thankfully not burned down by the wildfires. Many have reacted to Streep\u2019s fearlessness on social media, with one X user describing her as a \u201cdamn strong woman.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Thank goodness she\u2019s okay now. According to the account, Short \u2014 who <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/news\/are-meryl-streep-and-martin-short-dating\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stars alongside Streep<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/tv\/thats-a-bummer-only-murders-in-the-building-fans-are-worried-about-a-sus-season-4-change-and-im-nervous-along-with-them\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Only Murders in the Building<\/em><\/a><em> <\/em>\u2014 saw the encroaching flames from the balcony of his home in the Palisades, which he purchased in 1984. While he was initially planning to remain in situ, Short only made the decision to evacuate after his son, who lives nearby, called him and told him to flee. The actor did not face an obstruction to his exit like Streep, but he did encounter an obstacle in the form of gridlock and panic.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The route to safety, which Short said would usually \u201ctake five minutes,\u201d ended up lasting \u201cmore than an hour\u201d due to heavy traffic. Short said he made sure to bring his family photos with him as he evacuated. While the actor\u2019s own house was thankfully unscathed by the fires, his son unfortunately lost his home in the Palisades.
