It\u2019s one of Hollywood\u2019s biggest cliches.<\/strong><\/p>\n

So-and-so actor was \u201cbrave\u201d to gain 30 lbs. for an Oscar-bait role. Ugh.<\/p>\n

Even worse? Generic Actor took a courageous stand denouncing President Donald Trump at the Fill-In-the-Blank awards show.<\/p>\n

Nonsense.<\/p>\n

A bigger courage deficit exists elsewhere in La La Land. This one matters more, and the cowardice has real-world implications. <\/p>\n

Consider the all-out war against trans performer Karla Sof\u00eda Gasc\u00f3n. The Best Actress nominee from Netflix\u2019s \u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez\u201d is under extreme Cancel Culture attack. Gasc\u00f3n’s past social media posts \u201cresurfaced\u201d courtesy of Sarah Hagi,<\/a> a journalist eager to alienate the performer.<\/p>\n

It worked.<\/p>\n

Gasc\u00f3n’s problematic posts ran the gamut. A few reflect common-sense stances that clashed with progressive thinking. Example? Gasc\u00f3n called George Floyd a troubled soul who didn\u2019t deserve deification.<\/p>\n

The star also poked fun at activist Oscar galas, tweaking their virtue-signaling ways.<\/p>\n

Other posts proved more malicious. Gasc\u00f3n mocked Islam as being incompatible with Western values. His very worst hot take?<\/a><\/p>\n

Gasc\u00f3n didn\u2019t \u201cunderstand so much about the world war against Hitler, he simply had his opinion about Jews.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oof.<\/p>\n

The media declared war on Gasc\u00f3n<\/a>, ignoring how the star\u2019s nomination represented a historical first for the Academy Awards. No other trans artist has won an acting nomination prior to \u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Gasc\u00f3n win could also double as a middle-fingered salute to Trump 2.0. (Could that explain the film\u2019s 13 Oscar nominations?)<\/a><\/p>\n

The media treated Gasc\u00f3n like a MAGA acolyte anyway.<\/p>\n

You\u2019d think Gasc\u00f3n’s co-stars might have some sympathy for the nominee. Perhaps the Tweets didn\u2019t reflect the performer\u2019s true thoughts or, as with Roseanne Barr, were shared under the influence of one substance or another.<\/p>\n

No acknowledgment that sometimes we say things in anger or frustration. Sometimes, we even feel the need to troll others online. Just ask X Troll King Michael Malice.<\/p>\n

No. \u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez\u201d director Jacques Audiard threw Gasc\u00f3n under the bus<\/a> in record time in a Deadline interview.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s very hard for me to think back to the work I did with Karla Sof\u00eda. The trust we shared, the exceptional atmosphere that we had on the set that was indeed based on trust. And when you have that kind of relationship and suddenly you read something that that person has said, things that are absolutely hateful and worthy of being hated, of course that relationship is affected. It\u2019s as if you fall into a hole. Because what Karla Sof\u00eda said is inexcusable.<\/p>\n

Audiard also ruled out speaking to Gasc\u00f3n moving forward. No forgiveness. No empathy.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the same approach fellow \u201cEmilia P\u00e9rez\u201d Oscar nominee Zoe Salda\u00f1a took. The \u201cAvatar\u201d alum referred back to a prepared statement<\/a> regarding her co-star: \u201cI do not support any negative rhetoric of racism and bigotry towards any group of people.\u201d<\/p>\n

It sounds like artists trying to appease potential Oscar voters, not worrying about a co-star whom they spent endless hours trying to make the best film possible.<\/p>\n

None of this is surprising. Hollywood cowardice is the norm. Consider how the stars cowered as Cancel Culture rolled over the artistic community. They sat still as trigger warnings stained everything from \u201cDumbo\u201d to \u201cGoodfellas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Not even the latter\u2019s director, Martin Scorsese, addressed the matter.<\/a><\/p>\n
