The Tokyo motor show has returned\u00a0for another year, coming back rebranded\u00a0as the Japan mobility show to reflect\u00a0the profound changes\u00a0in our\u00a0industry.<\/p>\n

We expect to see well-known icons switching from ICE to EV, alongside\u00a0new-age electric cars going big on\u00a0production sustainability\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>a healthy dose of electric scooters and tricycles to punctuate\u00a0what will become a very different event to the one we\u2019re used to.<\/p>\n

Taking place from\u00a025 October to\u00a05 November at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition centre, the popular event will become host to a multitude of unveilings, from an electric\u00a0Honda NSX<\/a>\u00a0concept to the new Suzuki Swift and an electric Mazda MX-5.<\/p>\n

Honda CI-MEV<\/h2>\n

A pint-sized two-seater built for those who live in urban areas where public transport is scarce and are unable to walk long distances. Expected to be fully autonomous, it combines \u201cco-operative intelligence\u201d with sustainability, the latter of which through the use of multiple production techniques. For example, it will use acrylic resin instead of paint so that it can be recycled and reused. It will likely be driven using artifical intelligence (AI) and be powered by swappable batteries.<\/p>\n

Honda Speciality Sports Concept<\/h2>\n

Among a collection of electric concepts to be revealed by\u00a0<\/span>Honda<\/a>\u00a0at Tokyo will be a potential electric successor to the NSX supercar. Named the Specialty Sports Concept, the performance EV was previewed as an \u2018electric vision design study\u2019 at Monterey Car Week earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Said by Honda to \u201cenable the driver to experience the pure joy of driving\u201d, it’s expected to be developed with a strong emphasis on carbon-neutrality without sacrificing engaging driving dynamics as Honda phases out internal-combustion cars.<\/p>\n

Honda to unveil three concepts including electric sports cars<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Honda Sustaina C<\/h2>\n

This\u00a0Honda E<\/a>-sized electric supermini has been developed to showcase the Japanese firm\u2019s sustainability goals. It’s made entirely from a recyclable acrylic resin to promote the concept of \u2018resource circulation\u2019.<\/p>\n

Seen as the little brother to the E,\u00a0its design will likely be an evolution with clean shutlines and wind-cheating body panels.<\/p>\n

Lexus<\/a> EV Concept<\/h2>\n

This radical electric crowning glory to the Lexus range will be fully unveiled in 2026,\u00a0pioneering\u00a0a bold new approach to design, construction and powertrain technology. It will be previewed by a concept at Tokyo\u00a0and promises to represent an all-out revolution in the way the Japanese firm engineers its cars. It’s set to be the first of a new family of EVs that will eventually be direct rivals to those from BMW<\/a>, Mercedes-Benz<\/a>\u00a0and Audi.<\/a><\/p>\n

Radical new Lexus concept to preview long-range EV for 2026<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Electric Mazda MX-5<\/strong><\/h2>\n

First reported by Autocar last year, this sleek two-seat sports coup\u00e9\u00a0provides an early look at what the next\u00a0MX-5<\/a> will look like. It’s a hardtop with Lamborghini<\/a>-style scissor doors, space for both a combustion engine and battery\u00a0and an overall profile similar to that of the current car. It arrived as Mazda<\/a> announced a near-\u00a39bn spending plan to accelerate its electrification drive.<\/p>\n

It will be shown at the firm’s Tokyo stand, the theme of which is “products that satisfy customers’ love of driving and cars”.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mazda hints at electric MX-5 in revised EV strategy<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Nissan Hyper Adventure concept<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Majoring on vehicle-to-everything technology, this electric 4×4 has a high-capacity battery to enable it to supply power to any external device, from\u00a0a kettle to an\u00a0electric jetski\u00a0or even the national grid. When demand is high, it could allow for the sale of electricity in the car\u2019s battery back to the grid, thereby increasing the reliability of energy infrastructure. Elsewhere, you will find\u00a0Nissan\u2019s e-4orce four-wheel-drive system for all-weather traction.<\/p>\n

It will be displayed digitally on Nissan<\/a>\u2019s stand alongside the Hyper Urban concept\u00a0and two other models that are yet to be revealed.<\/p>\n

Nissan reveals rugged electric off-roader concept for Tokyo<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Subaru Sport Mobility concept<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Heading up Subaru<\/a>‘s stand is a concept\u00a0electric sports car designed to preview what the company’s cars will look like as it heads towards electrification. It’s designed to\u00a0be a car that will\u00a0go “anywhere, anytime”\u00a0and that\u00a0you should be able to “drive at will” no matter where you find yoursef on the road.\u00a0Few details have been given away, but it appears to have taken some design inspiration from the SVX, Subaru’s 1990s sports coup\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Suzuki EWX<\/strong><\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This Nissan Cube-esque concept is a\u00a0futuristic\u00a0EV designed to make the urban\u00a0driver’s life as easy as possible. It’s<\/span>\u00a0described by Suzuki as “a crossover of fun and practicality”.<\/p>\n

Clean shutlines and a relatively simple, featureless body help it achieve a range of 142 miles, while on the inside, it has been designed “to make people feel at home”.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tehnical details aren’t yet known, but it could use a smaller version of the 60kWh battery used in the similar-sized EVX.<\/p>\n

Suzuki eVX<\/h2>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Suzuki<\/a>\u2019s first EV will be an SX4 S-Cross-sized crossover that aims to \u201ccarry forward the brand\u2019s 4×4 legacy\u201d. Previewed by a concept shown at Auto Expo 2023 in Delhi, India, it featured a 60kWh battery, allowing it to drive 550km (342 miles) between charges.<\/p>\n

Suzuki is aiming for a budget-friendly positioning for the eVX,\u00a0likely around \u00a330,000,\u00a0meaning a single-motor, two-wheel-drive powertrain is expected to feature in the majority of variants. A global launch is scheduled for 2025.<\/p>\n

The construction of the supermini\u00a0is also said to put much more of an emphasis on sustainability.<\/p>\n
