After nearly a decade\u2019s absence, Honda will begin producing the Honda Civic Hybrid in spring 2024 as a 2025 model in hatchback and sedan variants. <\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n

Honda\u2019s reintroduction of the hybrid comes as hybrid demand is noticeably increasing. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, sales of hybrids in the second quarter of 2023 accounted for 7.2% of sales, with plug-in hybrids accounting for another 1.7%, or nearly 9% of sales. In comparison, electric vehicles netted 6.7%.<\/p>\n

The 2025 Honda Civic hybrid sedan will be manufactured by Honda in Alliston, Ontario, while the hatchback is being built in Greensburg, Indiana. The two-motor hybrid-electric power unit to be built by the Honda Transmission Plant in Ohio, with the 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine being sourced from Honda\u2019s Anna Engine Plant in Ohio. <\/p>\n

\"2023<\/a><\/figure>\n

Honda\u2019s Indiana factory currently builds the Honda CR-V Hybrid, which accounts for more than 56% of the CR-V\u2019s U.S. sales. The same percentage holds true for the Honda Accord Hybrid. Honda anticipates that Civic hybrids will account for more than 40% of Civic sales.<\/p>\n

“Our associates are proud to play an important role in the Honda electrification strategy,” said Roxanna Metz, plant co-lead of the Indiana Auto Plant. \u201cSales of Honda hybrid models already represent more than one-quarter of our sales in the U.S. and we are proud to help our customers transition to the electrified future with our \u2018made in Indiana\u2019 products.\u201d<\/p>\n

Electrified vehicles account for almost 25% of Honda’s overall sales in the United States. But despite their American-based manufacturing, none of Honda\u2019s new hybrids are available for a federal tax credit<\/a>, as none are plug-in hybrids, some of which are eligible for federal tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act.<\/p>\n

Honda didn\u2019t release any further information nor photos of the 2025 Civic Hybrid.<\/p>\n

The Honda Civic Hybrid debuted in America in 2002, a year after going on sale in Japan. It was Honda\u2019s second hybrid model following the two-seat Insight. Aside from its grille, it looked like any other Civic. Uniquely, it was offered with a five-speed manual transmission as well as a continuously variable automatic. <\/p>\n

When redesigned for 2006, the manual transmission was dropped. The Honda Civic Hybrid would last through another generation before being axed for 2016, as cheap gasoline prices led to anemic hybrid sales. <\/p>\n
