Mazda has unveiled the Mazda’s Iconic SP concept, a low-slung two-seat sports car very much in the mold of the iconic Mazda MX-5 Miata.<\/p>\n

Photos released showcase a low-slung sports car featuring classic long hood proportions, elegantly simple lines, and\u2026wait for it\u2026pop-up headlights. Around back, we find taillights with a dual-circle theme, not unlike those of previous Mazda MX-5 Miatas. Are you catching our drift here? The Mazda’s Iconic SP concept is finished in Viola Red, a color created “based on Mazda’s desire to ‘cherish the color red.’”<\/p>\n

The Mazda Iconic SP concept features a two-rotary EV system that can burn hydrogen and other carbon-neutral fuels, to generate electricity that charges the battery and feeds the electric motor. This arrangement allows for a low hood, low center of gravity, and 50:50 weight distribution, all essential components for a well-balanced sports car like, say, the next Mazda MX-5 Miata.<\/p>\n

Inside, the Mazda’s Iconic SP concept sticks to Mazda’s tradition of driver-focused cockpits with exquisite detailing and minimal distractions. Rendered in a deep blue with the Viola Red bodywork making an appearance on the tops of the door cards, the interior of the Mazda’s Iconic SP concept recalls the current Mazda MX-5 Miata while progressing the theme with dual screens and an Alcantara dash.<\/p>\n

We wouldn’t be surprised if the Mazda Iconic SP concept is a preview of what to expect from the next Mazda MX-5 Miata. If so, we can’t wait to meet the NE generation.<\/p>\n

Mazda’s Iconic SP concept will debut at the Japan Mobility Show on October 25th in Tokyo.<\/p>\n
