Josh Peck<\/strong>, best known for starring in the shows Drake & Josh<\/em>, Turner and Hooch<\/em>, and How I Met Your Father<\/em>, revealed this week that he was in the running to play Edward Cullen in the Twilight<\/em> movies, and he even got down to the final few, but as we all know, was beat by Robert Pattinson<\/strong> for the role. Peck had Twilight<\/em> alum Taylor Lautner<\/strong> on a recent episode of his podcast Great Guys<\/em> (via Bustle<\/a>), and he revealed that he was almost cast in the role. <\/p>\n

Peck recalled to Lautner:<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember it’s like 2006? 7? They\u2019re like, \u2018Audition for this movie, Twilight, it’s based on a book, it’s going to be great.\u2019 So I send in my tape, for Edward.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Peck claimed that while he didn\u2019t ultimately land the part, he was close to nabbing it. <\/p>\n

\u201cA month later, I\u2019m with my manager and he goes, \u2018It\u2019s down to you and three guys, you\u2019re close.\u2019\u201d <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Peck says he was shocked about this development. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018Really?\u2019 I hadn\u2019t even had a tummy tuck yet, I\u2019m like, \u2018There\u2019s no way. He\u2019s got to be so shirtless, it\u2019s not going to happen.\u2019 Spoiler alert\u2014didn\u2019t get it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This was all new information for Lautner, who would have welcomed Peck to the world of Twilight.<\/em> \u201cDid I know this? That\u2019s amazing,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n

Peck was far from the only actor who put his name in for Edward Cullen. Scott Eastwood<\/strong>, Dave Franco<\/strong>, and Dustin Milligan<\/strong> have all revealed they auditioned to play the vampire.<\/p>\n

Some of the actors who went on to land other roles in the Twilight<\/em> cinematic universe also initially auditioned for Edward, including Jamie Campbell Bower<\/strong>, who ended up playing Caius, and Michael Welch<\/strong>, who took the role of Mike Newton.<\/p>\n

However, despite Peck\u2019s claim that he was one of the final contenders to play Edward, he may not have gotten as far as he thought. In June, E! reported that the final four contenders to play Edward were Pattinson, Ben Barnes<\/strong>, Shiloh Fernandez<\/strong>, and Jackson Rathbone<\/strong>, who would go on to play Edward\u2019s brother Jasper.<\/p>\n

All four actors reportedly went to director Catherine Hardwicke<\/strong>‘s California home to do their final screentests opposite Kristen Stewart<\/strong>, who had already been cast as Bella Swan. And according to Stewart, who spoke about the final auditions with The New Yorker in 2021, she knew the right choice from the beginning. \u201cIt was so clear who worked. I was literally just, like…\u201d she said, mimicking a swoon motion.<\/p>\n

Peck is a solid actor, and was cute in the shows he\u2019s done, but he has more of a boy next door look. Pattinson was always Edward, and it\u2019s wild that there were any other contenders. The Twilight<\/em> movies are silly, but you can\u2019t deny that chemistry. <\/p>\n\n
