One NBA writer is proposing that the New York Knicks trade for Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star big man Karl-Anthony Towns in a blockbuster deal. Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report<\/a> proposed the following trade idea between the Knicks and Timberwolves:<\/p>\n

Knicks Receive: Karl-Anthony Towns<\/strong><\/p>\n

Timberwolves Receive: Julius Randle, Isaiah Hartenstein, protected first-round pick<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Knicks are “monitoring” Towns’ situation with the Timberwolves, according to NBA insider Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News<\/a>. Multiple sources told Bondy that Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau would welcome coaching Towns again. Thibodeau coached Towns on the Timberwolves.<\/p>\n

Knicks president Leon Rose used to be Towns’ agent when he was at CAA. Swartz believes Towns “could raise the Knicks’ ceiling.”<\/p>\n

“But Towns doesn’t turn 28 years old until next month and is one of the greatest shooting big men we’ve ever seen,” Swartz wrote in his NBA trade column. “He’s a career 39.4 percent shooter from three at a high volume, a nightly double-double as a rebounder and a heady passer who could average five or six assists per night if thrown into Randle’s role in the offense.”<\/p>\n

Towns averaged 20.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.8 assists last season while shooting 49.5% from the field, 36.6% from beyond the arc and 87.4% from the free-throw line. The three-time NBA All-Star signed a four-year, $224.2 million extension with the Timberwolves in July 2022.<\/p>\n

Towns could be a player who flew under the radar in free agency but could be a big storyline at the 2024 February trade deadline in the wake of Anthony Edwards signing a five-year extension that could be worth up to $260 million.<\/p>\n

The Knicks could start Jalen Brunson, Quentin Grimes, RJ Barrett, Towns and Mitchell Robinson if New York’s front office figured out a way to acquire Towns from Minnesota. <\/p>\n
