Donovan Mitchell’s former teammate on the Utah Jazz thinks Mitchell will play for the New York Knicks in the future. <\/p>\n

Orlando Magic swingman Joe Ingles joined DJ and PK on 97.5 The KSL Sports Zone and predicted that Mitchell would be a member of the Knicks. <\/p>\n

“This is like non-bias, no outside info, I think he’ll play for New York one day, whether that’s sooner or later,” Ingles said<\/a>. “I think it would be great for New York and I think it would be great for him. Whether or not that actually happens we’ll wait and see.”<\/p>\n

Mitchell, who was born and raised in New York, thought he was going to get traded to the Knicks last offseason. However, the All-Star shooting guard got dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers instead.<\/p>\n

Mitchell averaged 28.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.4 assists last season in 68 games. He scored 71 points versus the Chicago Bulls in January and led the Cavaliers to 51 wins. However, the Knicks defeated Mitchell and Co. in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in five games.<\/p>\n

Mitchell is averaging 31.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists through four games this season for the Cavaliers. <\/p>\n

In November 2020, Mitchell signed a five-year, $163 million rookie-scale extension with the Jazz. He’ll make $32.6 million this season and $34.8 million in 2024-25. Mitchell has a player option worth $37 million for the 2025-26 season. He has already stated that he won’t sign an extension with the Cavaliers this year.<\/p>\n

The Knicks are monitoring Mitchell as a trade target, according to NBA insider Stefan Bondy of The New York Daily News<\/a>. Mitchell doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, so he can’t force his way to New York.<\/p>\n

The Knicks lost to the Miami Heat in the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals in six games. Many NBA pundits are surprised New York president Leon Rose hasn’t made a trade yet given all of his connections through CAA. <\/p>\n

Maybe Rose is waiting for Mitchell to become available again after failing to acquire the guard last offseason.<\/p>\n
