Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Tina Fey<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s Mean Girls: The Musical<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, a new theatrical film based on the hit Broadway play… which was based on the original 2004 movie. The new movie actually looks like it will deliver a fun and entertaining moviegoing experience. The whole concept is the same, but it was updated for a whole new generation of teens. After all, the original movie celebrates its 20th anniversary next year. Yeah, it\u2019s been 20 years since the first movie was released!<\/p>\n

The description for the movie reads: \u201cFrom the comedic mind of Tina Fey comes a new twist on the modern classic, Mean Girls<\/em>. New student Cady Heron (Angourie Rice<\/strong>) is welcomed into the top of the social food chain by the elite group of popular girls called “The Plastics,” ruled by the conniving queen bee Regina George (Rene\u00e9 Rapp<\/strong>) and her minions Gretchen (Bebe Wood<\/strong>) and Karen (Avantika<\/strong>). However, when Cady makes the major misstep of falling for Regina’s ex-boyfriend Aaron Samuels (Christopher Briney<\/strong>), she finds herself prey in Regina’s crosshairs. As Cady sets to take down the group’s apex predator with the help of her outcast friends Janis (Auli’i Cravalho<\/strong>) and Damian (Jaquel Spivey<\/strong>), she must learn how to stay true to herself while navigating the most cutthroat jungle of all: high school.\u201d<\/p>\n

The musical’s creator, Jeff Richmond<\/strong>, talked about the film saying: “What we’re trying to do [with the movie] is take the score that sounds like a Broadway score \u2014 in a good way \u2014 and [give] the movie a fresher palette. To make it sound more like stuff you want to listen to on Spotify, as opposed to when you’re sitting eighth row center at a Broadway theater or the Pantages. It’s kind of making it a fresher, younger take on the whole thing. We’re kind of reinvented the music for the movie, so it’s really fun.”<\/p>\n

Mean Girls: The Musical<\/em> is directed by Samantha Jayne<\/strong> and Arturo Perez Jr.<\/strong> from a screenplay by Tina Fey. The movie also stars Fey, Jenna Fischer<\/strong><\/a>, Busy Philipps<\/strong>, Jon Hamm<\/strong>, and Tim Meadows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Mean Girls: The Musical<\/em> will be released in theaters on January 12th.<\/p>\n
