The slightly longer answer is \u201cno, but calling it an original concept isn\u2019t exactly honest, either.\u201d The even longer answer than that is \u201cIt\u2019s an amalgamation of a bunch of other people\u2019s ideas, thinly coated in Zack Snyder-brand varnish and presumably run past a bunch of intellectual property experts to make super, <em>duper <\/em>sure that none of this is actionable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no secret that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/movies\/why-would-hollywood-say-no-and-no-one-could-think-of-a-reason-hollywood-still-said-no-but-zack-snyder-made-rebel-moon-anyway\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Rebel Moon\u00a0<\/em>has its roots in\u00a0<em>Star Wars<\/em><\/a><em>.\u00a0<\/em>Before finding a forever home on the streaming service, the two-part Netflix film, which hits theaters Nov. 15, 2023, started life as a pitch for a Snyder-style, just-for-big-boys addition to George Lucas\u2019 galaxy a long, long way off. Unfortunately for Snyder, talks with Lucasfilm fell apart when the company was purchased, Kitt Fisto and Kaboodle Fisto, by the good folks at Disney. Disney\u2019s higher-ups didn\u2019t cotton to Snyder\u2019s ideas, and a\u00a0<em>Heavy Metal, Magazine-<\/em>inspired Jedi epic was left forever unrealized, leaving ample space for memorable entries to the franchise like\u00a0<em>Solo: A Star Wars Story\u00a0<\/em>and that show about Obi-Wan being sad.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Rebel Moon | Official Teaser Trailer | Netflix\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_rHLOXbFZtI?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1&#038;%23038;origin=https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>All of that being said, after a long process of shopping the project around as a movie, TV show, and video game, <em>Rebel Moon <\/em>remained, down to its DNA, a <em>Star Wars <\/em>movie. It\u2019s not ashamed to say it, either: This is a heavily inspired homage to the sci-fi throwbacks from the \u201870s and \u201880s. It just has more swearing and, in all likelihood, a fully exposed butt.<\/p>\n<p>Tangentially, of course,\u00a0<em>Rebel Moon\u00a0<\/em>is based on a few books. If\u00a0<em>Rebel Moon\u00a0<\/em>is based on\u00a0<em>Star Wars\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Star Wars\u00a0<\/em>is based on every book that Joseph Campbell ever wrote about, then\u00a0<em>Rebel Moon\u00a0<\/em>is just another of a thousand faces hanging from an enigmatic hero. Shots from\u00a0<em>Rebel Moon\u00a0<\/em>look treacherously similar to Snyder\u2019s previous work,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/movies\/zack-snyder-reveals-warner-bros-300-movie\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>300<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em>which takes direct page-to-screen visual inspiration from the comic book of the same name. Most importantly,\u00a0<em>Rebel Moon\u00a0<\/em>is, inescapably, a Zack Snyder project. Zack Snyder&#8217;s projects are, to a one, sopping with references to\u00a0<em>Excalibur,\u00a0<\/em>the adult-leaning 1981 King Arthur adaptation with blood and guts that Snyder has called \u201cthe perfect meeting of movies and mythology.\u201d With studied dedication, he has aped\u00a0<em>Excalibur\u00a0<\/em>and, by extension, the writings of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wegotthiscovered.com\/movies\/zack-snyder-reveals-warner-bros-300-movie\/\"  rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the King Arthur mythos<\/a>\u00a0in all of his work, and it would be genuinely bananas if it didn\u2019t show up in his latest story. Mark my words: Carla Gugino will reprise her role from\u00a0<em>Justice League\u00a0<\/em>as \u201cComputer just flat out quoting\u00a0<em>Excalibur\u00a0<\/em>lines for a while.\u201d I may be
